total warning-removal for daemon/
The warnings in daemon were aggravating and risky
for development (too easy to miss new ones) so I spent some
time last week and today working on removing them.
The first patch gets us down to almost no warnings with
the original -Wall setting. That was by far the hardest part.
Once I'd done that, I enabled nearly all of gcc's warnings via
gnulib's warnings and manywarnings modules

[PATCH 00/13] Fix errors found using Coverity static analyzer.
I ran the Coverity static analyzer[1] on libguestfs, and fixed many
errors as a result.
Coverity found some errors in gnulib, but it doesn't seem to be worth
following those up since the version of gnulib we are using is so old.
There are a couple more errors (possibly 1 false-positive) which I'm
going to send in a separate email.
BTW all the errors found by Coverity were in the daemon

[PATCH 0/23] factor and const-correctness
This started as a simple warning-elimination change.
I'll get back to that series shortly ;-)
It turned into a factorization and constification exercise
during which I got a taste of ocaml. Thanks to Rich Jones
for help with a few snippets in generator.ml.
The overall result is that many previously-manually-maintained
bits from daemon/*.c functions are now hoisted into the automatically-

ocfs2's bmap output
I'm writing a stackable file system and one of it's features is that it
can combine many sparse files into a single view. On ext2/3 I was using
bmap to give me the information needed, so for instance, if I created a
big sparse file and tacked on some information at the end on ext2/3 I'd
get something like
blade12:~# ~/a.out abc

[PATCH] lib: Autodetect backing format and specify it explicitly.
In the guestfs_disk_create API we have traditionally allowed you to
set backingfile without setting backingformat. The meaning of this is
to let qemu autodetect the backing format when opening the overlay
disk.
However libvirt >= 6.0 refuses to even pass such disks to qemu (see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1798148).
For this reason, move the autodetection earlier and make it

[PATCH 00/10] New API: disk-create for creating blank disks.
A lot of code runs 'qemu-img create' or 'truncate' to create blank
disk images.
In the past I resisted adding an API to do this, since it essentially
duplicates what you can already do using other tools (ie. qemu-img).
However this does simplify calling code quite a lot since qemu-img is
somewhat error-prone to use (eg: don't try to create a disk called
"foo:bar")

making makepredictcall() work
Dear All,
I'm interested in creating a function similar to ns() from package
splines that can be passed in a model formula. The idea is to produce
"safe" predictions from a model using this function. As I have seen, to
do this I need to use makepredictcall(). Consider the following toy example:
myns <- function (x, df = NULL, knots = NULL, intercept = FALSE,
Boundary.knots =

[PATCH 2/3] New API: guestfs_blockdev_setra: Adjust readahead for filesystems and devices.
This adds a binding for 'blockdev --setra', allowing you to adjust the
readahead parameter for filesystems and devices.

[PATCH v2 00/12] Allow APIs to be implemented in OCaml.
Version 1 was here:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2017-June/msg00003.html
This patch series reimplements a few more APIs in OCaml, including
some very important core APIs like ?list_filesystems? and ?mount?.
All the tests pass after this.
The selection of APIs that I have moved may look a little random, but
in fact they are all APIs consumed by the inspection code (and some

[PATCH] lib: create: avoid one extra string allocation
When creating the qemu-img command, use the guestfs_int_cmd_add_arg &
guestfs_int_cmd_add_arg_format APIs to add the proper filename directly,
without creating a string for it.
This should cause no functional change.

Applied the generic path searching to ISOLINUX
Hi all,
I just applied the generic path searching to ISOLINUX, and you can
check it here:
http://git.zytor.com/?p=users/liu/gsoc09_liu.git
since commit 4bb194f14a43674cced3a8c35d5e625e59db32dc.
hpa, for now, all the fs code have been converted to new-style
interface and I have done my best to make all the fs C code be clean
and readable. Well, it would be great if you take a minute to

[PATCH 00/27] Reimplement many daemon APIs in OCaml.
Previously posted as part of the mega utilities/inspection
series here:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2017-June/msg00232.html
What I've done is to extract just the parts related to rewriting
daemon APIs in OCaml, rebase them on top of the current master, fix a
few things, and recompile and test everything.
Rich.

[PATCH v3 00/19] Allow APIs to be implemented in OCaml.
v2 was here:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2017-June/msg00008.html
This series gets as far as a working (and faster) reimplementation of
‘guestfs_list_filesystems’.
I also have another patch series on top of this one which reimplements
the inspection APIs inside the daemon, but that needs a bit more work
still, since inspection turns out to be a very large piece of code.
Rich.
