Scaling virt-df performance
Hello, I have been looking at the "virt-df" libguestfs tool to get guest-level disk used/free statistics - specifically with Qemu-KVM/Openstack. This works great for a few Openstack instances, but when I begin to scale (even to ~30 instances/guests) the performance really takes a hit. The time it takes for the command to complete seems to scale linearly with the amount of guests/domains

Problem with virt-sysprep
Hi there, I was wondering if you could help me with a problem I'm having with virt-sysprep. It's a recurrent problem running virt-sysprep: Examining the guest ... Fatal error: exception Guestfs.Error("guestfs_launch failed. See http://libguestfs.org/guestfs-faq.1.html#debugging-libguestfs and/or run 'libguestfs-test-tool'.") So I ran virt-sysprep and

Sharing an NFS mount via samba
Hi, >From what i understand sharing an NFS mount via samba is not a good idea. Is the any way to make this work with strict locks = yes ? The NFS mount is on a NetApp filer, I cannot create users on the Netapp. therefore mounting via NFS allows me create users on a Linux machine. and manage the access to data. Any advice to maintain the data integrity would be helpful thanks Will

Dovecot SASL & Postfix
This is probably a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway. I am currently using Postfix with Dovecot and Cyrus-SASL. I want to switch over to Dovecot SASL. The regular Dovecot user/password file is not the same as the file used by cyrus-sasl. Usewr names and passwords are different. I created a flat file that dovecot can use for SASL look-ups; however, exactly where in the Dovecot config file to

how to use libvirt
Hi everyone: I am just a new user to libvirt. I installed libvirt as: ./configure make sudo make After that I run the program in the development guide. But it seems that the program is stuck in the function of virConnectOpenReadOnly. When I tried the command: virsh list --all, it is also stuck. So could anyone tell me what's wrong with this? Thank you so much Tianwei Zhang --------------

Re: operation forbidden Read Only Access
Hi, I found an answer : Use virConnectOpenAuth() instead of virConnectOpenReadOnly(). As my piece of code is running silently (without user connected) , by using virConnectOpenAuth() , is it possible to avoid to prompt user to get user /password ? Thx. here's a fix for Goldmine (and other ISAM database based programs) on Windows NT/2000/XP clients talking to samba
Goldmine seems to a compiled database application compiled in something likeClipper. Clipper applications record lock through ISAM like files (DBF). However, in Windows NT/2000/XP, Opportunistic locking is turned on by default in order to accelerate file transfer from file services. [Windows 95/98 did not Opportunisticly lock] However, opportunistic locking corrupts ISAM and ISAM like

How to have a directory and its subdirectories as a storage pool
Hi, I would like to use btrfs subvolumes as storage place for VM images to use snapshots. Unfortunately, this does not seem to work in virt-manager at least since the "filesystem directory" storage pool type does not allow me to descend into subdirectories. Is there a trick to do this? Can I do it with virsh, or in the XML? Greetings Marc --

Any comment on adding #cast and #cast! to ActiveRecord::Relation?
Not getting any love (tender or otherwise) on my pull request<https://github.com/rails/rails/pull/7035>so I thought you folks might like to chip in. What do you think? #cast and #cast! allow you to declare a mapping from generated column names to simplified database column types (i.e. those used in migrations). This way scopes with columns generated in their select lists can also include

How to use /dev/mapper in virt-manager/libvirt
Hi, my test host is running Debian/GNU Linux unstable and has virt-manger 0.9.5 and libvirt 1.2.1. I am using encryption and thus have devices in /dev/mapper that are not LVs, for example called /dev/mapper/myvirtualdisk. I'd like to configure libvirt in a way that allows me to directly assign such devices to a VM. This does not work when I create a filesystem directory storage pool in
