SMB2 write performace slower than SMB1 in 10Gb network
Hi forks: I've been testing SMB2 with samba 3.6.4 performance these days, and I find a weird benchmark that SMB2 write performance is slower than SMB1 in 10Gb ethernet network. Server ----------------------- Linux: Redhat Enterprise 6.1 x64 Kernel: 2.6.31 x86_64 Samba: 3.6.4 (almost using the default configuration) Network: Chelsio T4 T420-SO-CR 10GbE network adapter RAID: Adaptec 51645 RAID

NUMA support on Xen ?
Hi, I am a Masters student from Carnegie Mellon University. I am looking for a research topics for an Advanced OS & DS course we have. I wanted to know what is the current support for NUMA on Xen ? Does it support the IBM x440 and AMD64 Opteron ? Also, does the Xen scheduler do NUMA aware scheduling so it does not degrade the VM performace ? My group is currently looking into Scheduling

[Xen-tools] Dprobe and Systemtap for Xen Tracing and Debugging.
Hi folks In linux kernel development, there is a debug tool called dprobe ,which can be used to dynamic insert the probes into the function of kernel source code and find what''s goning on.There is also a tool called systemtap which is based on dprobe and kernel debug info. Using the kprobes infrastructure, SystemTap is being developed to dynamically instrument the kernel and user

1.0.rc10 status report
(Background: Relatively new to dovecot; looking to do transparent replacement of long-established UW-IMAP on cluster of Linux boxes which NFS-mount a shared "/var/spool/mail".) With rc8, where I had already increased "login_max_processes_count" from default 128 to 1024, we had still hit the issue of too many logins crashing dovecot, so that trial had only lasted a couple of

Disk images
Hello! We are planning to migrate our iSCSI installation (LUN based) to one NFS installation (based in images). iSCSI offers great performance, but we have many dom0s and domUs and the management is difficult (many LUNS, many multipath messages, ...). (We are using Debian Wheezy with Xen 4.1.2) I have some questions: -What formats of disk images support Xen? I have not found support for

Why Point-Stereo at 160 kbps ?
Hi there ! I checked Vorbis' performace for mono files at approx. 64-80 kbps (it does a good job) and I'm wondering why the current OggEnc still uses Point-Stereo (>10kHz) for -q4 and -q5 I know, we're usually unable to percieve those phase correlations above 10 kHz, But a Dolby Prologic Decoder isn't. I think a future version of OggEnc which is able to use a user-selectable

ov_raw_seek doesn't work ?
I found a problem with ov_raw_seek function in oggvorbis win32sdk 1.0. When i called this function it returned OV_EINVAL immediatelly. I solved the issue by replacing the ov_raw_seek by ov_pcm_seek, which worked perfectly, but i would like to use the raw variant due to performace reason . Is anybody aware of this strange behaviour ? i686 vs i386 Wine Binaries
Hi, I'm a linux newbie here.. just downloaded the Wine pacakge for Ubuntu and I'm surprised at the number of Windows apps that are functional under Wine. However, the performace is a bit lacking, especially in games though still acceptable. (I'm getting maybe 75% the framerate I'm used to.) I've noticed that the version of Wine I'm using for Ubuntu is specifically

xen & iSCSI
Hi, I'm setting up xen (on centos 5.3) and I'm facing a weird performance issue with iSCSI. I attach the iSCSI targets to dom0 and if I use them from dom0 I obtain good performance with simple dd tests (~100MB/s both reading and writing). I then use the block devices for the domU and if I repeat the same dd test from within the domU the write performace is still good (~100MB/s), but the

Roo gem performance problems
I am getting unacceptable performace problems by using the roo gem for reading a file by using XLSX or XLS library from this gem. Someone may suggest me an alternative about how to parse an .XLSX file? <code> parsed_file = Excel.new(filename, false, :ignore) if (file_format.upcase == "XLS") parsed_file = Excelx.new(filename, false, :ignore) if (file_format.upcase ==

Syntax in taking log to transfrom the data to fit Gaussian distribution
Hi, I have a data set (weight) that does not follow the Gaussian (Normal) distribution. However, I have to transform the data before applying the Gaussian distribution. I used this syntax and used log(weight) as: posJy.model<-glm(log(weight) ~ factor(pos), family=gaussian(link='identity'), subset=Soil=="Jy"). This syntax COULD NOT transform the data. But if I transform the

More Benchmarks, and a question about indexing
Hi, We are thinking of converting to Dovecot to lighten our I/O load. I have done some performace tests comparing UW-IMAP to Dovecot when using mbox format if anyone is interested. They primarily examine the I/O improvements that can be gained from using Dovecot over UW when staying with mbox format: http://whizzo.uoregon.edu/public/src/mailperf/results.html I had too much cached for this set

Packet mangling latency
Firstly... sorry to those of you on both the netfilter and lartc list who''ll end up with this message twice... I am trying to find out what kind of latency I can expect when dNAT''ing UDP packets on (probably) a mid-range P3 server, 32-bit 33MHz PCI bus with Intel EEPro NICs. It''ll most likely be running whatever the latest 2.4 kernel will be at the time, unless there
