display SVG, PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PPM in new plot frame
Dear R-help I want to display an image file in a new plot frame. SVG is my preferred format, but I can also consider PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, and PPM (from ImageMagick). By way of background (although not material to this posting), the image file is generated by a call to 'dot' (part of the 'Graphviz' suite) after the required .dot file has been produced using hand-crafted R code.

Sweave
I'm trying to (re)learn Sweave and run into some problems. I use now ubuntu (8.10), emacs + ess. Slowly getting upto speed on ess. I have a complete (hopefully) .Rnw file, but the resulting .tex will not compile. The file does not contain anything exotic, but it produces pdf figures, and that is where the problems come: library(tools) > Sweave("varioCoo.Rnw") Writing to file

More examples?
Hello, I want to make a program to extract frame from a theora movie as images. I tried with the decoding example located at theora web site (dump_video.c. I use it to extract a frame as yuv image but when I try to convert it to ppm with yuvtoppm program i obtain a strange image ( see http://poux.be/tmp/file.ppm ). I think it's a problem with the byte order for yuv, but don't I don't

AMENDED: Ppmtolss16 trouble...
Upon finding a different image conversion program, I have eliminated the Premature EOF problem that I had(apologies if I post this before the moderator approves my first post...you can ignore it if/when it shows up). Now, I am seeing the script complete with no error. I tested my syslinux.dpy file with the syslogo.lss file from the samples, and it's fine. The lss file I created, however,

PPM to BMP converter
Dear all, Several days ago, I posted How to write a bmp file pixel by pixel. Instead of bmp, I succeeded in writing a PPM file by using the pixmap package. Thanks for the hint generously provided by Uwe Ligges. Now I have a new question. How to convert a PPM file to BMP file in R? I know I can do this in photoshop or by some other softwares, but I think if I Can do this in R, that

Reading graphics files
Is there a tool for reading a graphics file into an object? I might not be looking with the correct vocabulary, but I'm finding lots of references to producing graphics from R, but not any for inputting graphics into R. I'd like to use a jpeg image and have the data available in R for analysis. I could convert the image to another format, PPM perhaps, and parse that in, GRASS seems like

bizarre system slowness
Running v5 64bit on a Dell 1950. A cluster of 3 DB machines, identical hardware. One of them suddenly became slower 2 weeks ago. tar -zxf with a large file on this machine takes 1.5 minutes, but takes only 10 seconds on any of its siblings. CPU usage seems high while untarring, with lots of user and sys cycles being used, but almost no wait cycles. It doesn't matter whether I untar on a

Subscript in axis label
Dear R help list members, I am experiencing difficulty in trying to generate a subscript '2' in an axis label. Although I can get the '2' into a subscript using expression(), R then forces me to leave at least one space between the '2' and the following character. My label is supposed to read 'N2O concentration (ppm)', and the space between the '2' and

using spplot (sp package) with 5 quantiles
Hi, I'm using R 2.5.1 and gstat 0.9-39 library and I'm working with the jura data set provided by gstat library. I tried to plot a graph of metal concentrations (let's say Cd) with the command spplot, but I realized that the default lags are equally distributed between Min and Max. I did: library(gstat) data(jura) jura.pred.xy <- jura.pred names(jura.pred.xy)[1:2] <-

ppmtolss16 not working
Commandline (under Debian): ./ppmtolss16 #FFFFFF=7 #000000=1 < missile2.ppm > splash.rle Permissions do allow execution. Script begins to execute, but seems to be reading in from the console, rather than from the file. I can enter all the whitespace I want, but after entering anything else, it complains about stdin not being a standard ppm file. So, the problem is in my command line...
