Inspection of disk snapshots
Greetings, I have the following typical scenario: given one or more qcow2 base images I clone them with COW and start the VMs. At a certain point I'd like to inspect them in order to see their evolution compared to the known base images. To do so I was thinking about taking a disk snapshot of each VM and inspect its content through libguestfs (using it's Python bindings). Obviously I

Proposed API for guestconv library
guestconv will be a new, re-usable library to perform guest OS conversions when moving between hypervisors. I've attached 3 files to this email which are relevant to the proposed API. guestconv.h is the proposed C binding. example.c is the simplest possible usage of the API. It converts the first detected root of the guest, accepting all defaults. root.xml is an example description

[PATCH v2 API PROPOSAL 0/5] inspection Add network interfaces to inspection data.
The proposed API is the same as v1, but this includes an implementation (for /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-*) and modifications to virt-inspector. This compiles and works. If you look in patch 5 you can see proposed output as virt-inspector XML for a guest (although this guest has not been booted, so a real guest would hopefully have a hwaddr="MAC" attribute too). [PATCH 0/3] [FOR COMMENTS ONLY] Rework inspection.
This is something I've been working on: Reworking inspection so it's not a big mess of ad hoc C code, but instead uses a well-defined domain-specific language to describe how we inspect guests. The best introduction to this is the manual page, which I include below (it's also included in patch 2/3). Rich. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NAME

[PATCH] inspection: handle empty file in parse_suse_release
If /etc/SuSE-release is empty then lines[0] is NULL, which is passed to strdup. As a result virt-inspector will segfault. This was introduced in commit 763ec36cf0c6ffa6d359b65ff7f1ee9ab1c7361e. Fwd: Inspection of disk snapshots
I was sure I was doing something wrong as I'm not yet fully aware of QCOW2 snapshot feature and how it interacts with libguestfs. I'll try to explain better the scenario: I have several hosts running lots of VMs which are generated from few base images, say A, B, C the base images (backing file) and A1, A2, A*, B1, B2, B* clones on top of which the newly spawned VMs are running. I need

v10: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2017-July/msg00245.html No actual change here, but I rebased and retested. Also this series now does not depend on any other patch series since everything else needed is upstream. Rich.

[PATCH v12 00/11] Reimplement inspection in the daemon.
This fixes almost everything. Note that it adds an extra commit which fixes the whole utf8/iconv business. It's probably better to list what isn't fixed: (1) I didn't leave the osinfo code around because I'm still haven't looked too closely at virt-builder-repository. Can't we just fetch this code from the git history when we need it? (2) I didn't change the way
