X11 font at size 6 could not be loaded
I recently upgraded my OS to Fedora 8 from Red Hat Enterprise Work Station 3. Before I upgraded certain operations would produce a warning to the effect that a desired font was not available so one had been substituted, which was okay. After the upgrade to Fedora 8, the plotting operation halts midway through and I get the following error message: "X11 font at size 6 could not be loaded"

plotmath problems with X11 fonts (Redhat 9)
We've only switched from redhat 7.3 to 9 several weeks ago, and I found today, that the last three pages of demo(plotmath) uses quite wrong plot symbols, e.g sum(....) gives (+) {+ in circle} instead of the Sigma-like summation --- but only in "text" not in title, i.e., probably a font problem. With postscript() {and hence dev.print() of x11()} all is fine. Hence it must be an X

Everyone, With the update to Centos 7.5 it is apparent that we lost the Courier 10 Pitch fonts that were in "xorg-x11-fonts-Type1". Does anyone know how to get this back. Greg Ennis

fonts on X and centos 4.4
I have this really short script below that only lets me set the font size from 5 to 50 using the slider at the bottom. Anything higher than 50 it will not do. run the program as "wish -f file.tcl" Why can I not increase the font size - using the slider bar at the bottom to anything higher than 50??? Does this work for anyone else? Using xlsfonts there are sizes higher than 50. Jerry

Another X11 problem. (Psigh!)
Tried to do a plot just now and got an error: Error in text.default(2, 6, main, cex = cex) : X11 font -adobe-helvetica-%s-%s-*-*-%d-*-*-*-*-*-*-*, face 1 at size 16 could not be loaded This is reproducible (in my current environment) via: par(mfrow=c(2,2)) plot(1:10) text(2,6,"Oh, hell!",cex=2) This is of course not the real context in which the error originally manifested

possible bug: dev.copy / could not find any X11 fonts
Hi, I am experiencing something strange, and thought I would ask before reporting a bug. I trimmed it down to a self-contained example, attached as an R file. The purpose of the functions is to save the plots into a ps file and simultaneously plot them on an x11 device, but don't open a new one if there is already one opened (I don't want the repositioning / flicker). When running the

embedding fonts in eps files
Hi, I have to make eps files with fonts embedded. I use the following postscript command: postscript("fig3a.eps", width = 5.2756, height = 7.27, pointsize = 7,horizontal = FALSE, onefile = FALSE, paper = "special",family = "Times") plot(...) dev.off() Are fonts automatically embedded in this way? How can I see that? If not, how to do it? regards, Rudi.

Fonts too small in Photopaint 9 for Linux
Hi, I've got Photopaint 9 running fine under Mandrake 8 after running the postinst script. But, fonts used by Photopaint is so small and it is inconvenient to look at... My resolution is 1024x768 on GeForce2MX and Philips 105S (15"). After reading the Wine documentation, I changed the following: Resolution = 120 (from 96) In wine.conf under the [fonts] section, then logout, restart X

Adding a title to a postscript file
I create lots of postscript files which I view with ghostview. The beginning of the files all begin something like %!PS-Adobe-3.0 %%DocumentNeededResources: font Helvetica %%+ font Helvetica-Bold %%+ font Helvetica-Oblique %%+ font Helvetica-BoldOblique %%+ font Symbol %%DocumentMedia: a4 595 841 0 () () %%Title: R Graphics Output %%Creator: R Software The consequence is that in ghostview,

evince not showing "greek" and "math" in *.pdf plots
Martin, I wouldn't rule out an R issue yet. Fonts are... tricky. So I'm cc'ing Paul Murrell here. I tried several viewers here and I see the following: Chrome, Firefox and Libreoffice Draw show the symbols; however, evince, okular and xournal++ agree on **not** showing the symbols. **If** there is a bug, the bug would be in fontconfig, because these ones AFAIK properly delegate on

evince not showing "greek" and "math" in *.pdf plots
Hi I don't think this is an R issue (it is separate from the Cairo Symbol font problem). For PDF output, R actually relies on the Symbol font having the Adobe Symbol Encoding (Appendix D of the PDF Reference https://opensource.adobe.com/dc-acrobat-sdk-docs/pdfstandards/pdfreference1.7old.pdf) and just outputs the font as "Symbol", which relies on it being one of the Standard

Gtkcdlabel + cdlabelgen on CentOS 7 ?
Hi, I've been using the nifty little application Gtkcdlabel for making CD and DVD covers since 2005, if I remember correctly. Later versions are written in Python, and it's a graphical frontend to the cdlabelgen utility. The application doesn't look very well maintained, since the 1.15 release dates back to 2011. Nevertheless, I've been successfully running it on Slackware Linux
