Cronbach's alpha
Dear Listers: I used cronbach{psy} to evaluate the internal consistency and some set of variables gave me alpha=-1.1003, while other, alpha=-0.2; alpha=0.89; and so on. I am interested in knowing how to interpret 1. negative value 2. negative value less than -1. I also want to re-mention my previous question about how to evaluate the consistency of a set of variables and about the total

multiple imputation with fit.mult.impute in Hmisc - how to replace NA with imputed value?
I am doing multiple imputation with Hmisc, and can't figure out how to replace the NA values with the imputed values. Here's a general ourline of the process: > set.seed(23) > library("mice") > library("Hmisc") > library("Design") > d <- read.table("DailyDataRaw_01.txt",header=T) > length(d);length(d[,1]) [1] 43 [1] 2666

Item Analysis and Cronbach's Alpha (Code Attached)
A short function I wrote for the purpose of evaluating scales made up of a number of questionnaire items. It provides Cronbach's Alpha, both unstandardized and based on standardized items. It also provides item statistics which include item-total correlations (corrected) and item-removed alpha. Thought some of you might find it useful. I would also appreciate any programming tips or

Code for Coefficent (Cronbach's) Alpha
Hi all, I am trying to teach myself to use and program R (How else do you do it? lol) Anyway, I wrote a piece of code to compute coefficent alpha for a scale. As I am neither a statistician nor a programmer, I wanted people's feedback. The code appears to work (Win 95 with R 1.0.1) and I have verified my result with SPSS and it was correct (much to my astonishment!). Nonetheless, I am

PLSR: model notation and reliabilities
I'm new in both R and statistics. I "did my homework", I tried the archives and whatever I managed to get from the sources, but still I need assistance with the plsr package. I have a model with 2 core determinants D1 and D2, made by 3 indicators each (D1a,D1b,D1c and so on). Also I have 2 moderating variables (m1,m2), where m1 moderates D1 and m2 modarates D2. The dependent

a questtion about Cronbach's alpha more than 1
Dear All, I am a novice in R and am working on my thesis for master's in Epidemiology & Biostatistics. While calculating Cronbach's alpha for the SF-36 questionnaire, I got all 8 of them more than 1. Is it possible to get alpha more than 1. If yes, please help me understand it. I read about the negative alpha value on your web postings. It does not answer my question though. Thank you.

Dear all, I like the way the Rcmdr package computes reliability. E.g reliability(cov(d[,c("q1", "q2", "q3", "q4", "q5", "q6")], use="complete.obs")) will not only give me the alpha score, but also for each variable, alpha.score if deleted. However - when writing scripts it's very tiresome to load the whole Rcmdr GUI just
