Which Linux system to download?
Hey all,
I'm from England and recently all of the 6th form students at my school was given a laptop for studies, meaning I got one.
The thing is it's Linux so I'm having trouble opening a .exe
Thankfully I came across Wine but the thing is I'm not sure what Linux system the laptop runs on.
Here's a link to the laptop:

R on an ASUS eee PC, continued - installing packages
Dear all,
I just went through the process of installing R on an eeePC 900 running
Linux. As a Windows useR utterly ignorant about Linux, I'd never have
done it without reading your posts and the R Wiki, so first of all:
thank you!
Next, taking up your thread from some weeks ago, I thought this could be
useful for somebody else too, so here's what I did:
1) I followed wolfgang's

ASUS Eee R cookbook
Hi all,
Having seen a few messages regarding the ASUS Eee PC (p701) and R, and
then buying one and trying to get R installed on it, I thought there
might be a few people on the list who would appreciate a cookbook on how
to do it. It's a nice little piece of machinery, running Xandros 4 Linux
(seems to be compatible with Debian Etch) and set up for the person who
wants to do all those

Installing R on Xandros 3.0
Dear List,
After obtaining a second-hand PC and because XP costs too much, I installed Xandros 3.0 (based on Debian) but pretty easy to use if migrating from WinXP.
Does anyone know how to install R on this OS?
Thank you for your time,
Tom Volscho

Help please
I use Xandros Linux and im not sure how to run Wine on it. I thought Xandros
was a debian based linux OS but it doesnt appear to be. I check all of the
other installs and its definitly not red hat linux or else it would be
called red hat. Its not freeBSD. So I desperately want to get Wine but im
stuck. I would appreciate help.

moving from Windows to Linux - need help
hi
I've used R for many years on windows machines, but
have now acquired an Asus eee 1000 linux machine.
In order to get the best out of the machine, I used the
'pimpmyeee.sh' script, to get the full KDE desktop.
The version of Linux is Xandros, which I believe is
a close relative of Debian, but sadly I have only a
nodding acquaintance with Linux at present.
Naturally I want to

Confused about versions of R and Debian
I have recently acquired an Asus EEE PC which runs a version of
Xandros which I believe to be a fork of Debian. I have been using R
under various versions of Windows for some years but this is my first
move into the world of Unix. I have installed Texlive from a CD and I
have successfully added a UK-based repository and installed Texmaker.
Now I would like to add R. There are dire warnings on

R on an eeePC
Dear list,
I wonder if somebody has succeeded in installing R on an eeePC (Xandros
desktop). Searching via Rseek (term eeePC) and in eeePC forums (term
Cran) left me without proper hits.
Best wishes,
Walter.

Upgrading R on my EEE PC netbook
I have been successfully been using R on my EEE PC for some while
now. Although it uses Xandros I have been able to install various
pieces of software by pretending that it was Debian etch. Johannes
was kind enough to continue providing binaries on CRAN for a while
but I think I am the only person still living in the past as CRAN
etch is currently stuck at 2.11.0 and I cannot rely on him to

Can't compile Wine for Asus 901
I have tried 1.1.7. ./configure says: You need to install Xlib/Xfree... devel.
I have installed x11proto-core-dev, which deprecates 'x-dev', 'cos x-dev is not applicable.
Is it possible to edit configure so that it makes use of x11proto instead ?
I assume asus 901 has Xandros on it, but some say it is Linpus.
Xandros has not replied anything, asus support they have no responsiblity

64-bit ISO Burning Failures
Hi,
I have downloaded several different sets of the 64-bit ISOs, and have
burned them to CD using various of my known-good ISO burning softwares,
including Nero and DeepBurn on Windows, as well as the native CD burning
KDE linux tool on Xandros Linux. I am using mirrors from the site, like
kernel.org.
I have chosen low burning speeds also, but when I insert the ISO CD into a
server and boot it

viruses for mswindows on a linux machine running wine
Hello
I have a very complete installation of wine with a lot of dll's and
executables in .wine/... /system and system32
I have tried many windows apps and found a lot working perfectly - just to
try as I dont need them: native Linux apps do as well for me
I currently use Acroread.exe which seems to run better than the linux apps to
view the .pdf
I also use IZArc.exe to unpack

Upgrade to R 2.7.2 from Debian Repository
I am running R 2.7.1 on an eeepc with the standard Xandros Linux. I
install/upgrade R binaries using synaptic from the
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian/etch-cran/ repository. R 2.7.2
does not appear to be available from this repository. Will it be available
soon or is there another repository I should be using?

R on an Asus Eee PC (step-by-step guide)
Dear All,
A while back, the question was raised whether R would run on an Eee PC:
http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e3/help/07/12/6564.html
There were some positive responses and some suggestions for getting this to work:

For those who would like a step-by-step guide, here it is. I hope somebody might find this useful.

IAX2 client for "eee pc 1000"
What kind of IAX2 client will install/run on EEE PC 1000 (stock Linux software)?
I'll eventually replace this crippled Linux with something better but I don't time to play around with it as most divers and modules are still too new and
not fully available in all distros.

Asus eee and wine.
Hello guys i'm a new asus eee user, you know the small umpc running the Xadnros OS,and since its not alla that bad i'm thinking of sticking to it instead of installing windwos XP.I do need though to run some windows apps,so i heard that wine should be my weapon of choice for this purpose!
So anyway i'm not familiar with linux-like setup procedures so i followed a guide on the net for
