JPackage, Java 1.5.0, and CentOS 5?
Hey, y'all.
I don't know how many folks here are familiar with a blogging program
called 'pebble' http://pebble.sourceforge.net, but it's *supposed* to be
an easy drop-in to a tomcat5 container. I suppose that it is, once I
figured out how to get tomcat 5 working in CentOS 5, but I'm still
having problems with the java.
CentOS comes with Java 1.4.2, but I need Java

Tomcat5 with Oracle/Sun jdk on CentOS 5.8
I know this question could be asked on tomcat or possibly other mailing
lists, but I'm hoping I can get some help here instead of joining yet
another list.
I'm running tomcat5 on CentOS 5.8. I'm trying to setup Oracle/Sun java
rather than icedtea. I've installed the latest jdk 1.7 and setup
alternatives on centos for java and javac:
# java -version

Trouble with centos4 and jpackage - trying to install tomcat5
I've followed the installation instructions from jpackage.org:
http://www.jpackage.org/installation.php
1) Install jpackage17.repo in yum.repos.d
2) Install jpackage-utils
3) Install jdk (I installed jdk 1.5.0_14)
4) Install -compat package (I installed java-1.5.0-sun-compat)
5) Select alternatives for java and javac. "/usr/sbin/alternatives
--config java" gave me only one option to

tomcat5 from jpackage 1.6 on cento4 w/java-1.4.2-sun-1.4.2.08-1jpp
Is there any documentation telling you whether tomcat5 was compiled
against the 1.4.2 tree or the 1.5?
You could try downloading the srpm, patching it to use the 1.4.2 java
and then re-create your own rpm.
Just a thought, might be an easier way though; will wait for the experts
response.

tomcat5 from jpackage 1.6 on cento4 w/ java-1.4.2-sun-1.4.2.08-1jpp
Is anyone running tomcat5 from jpackage 1.6 on cento4 w/ java-1.4.2-
sun-1.4.2.08-1jpp ?
I'm getting weird dependencies which don't make sense, notably:
Error: Missing Dependency: jdk = 2000:1.5.0_02-fcs is needed by package
java-1.5.0-sun-compat
I want to use 1.4.2 not 1.5 and it doesn't make sense to have jdk =
2000:1.5.0_02-fcs, unless I'm missing something? I do have

Setting up Tomcat as a service under CentOS 4?
I've found about a dozen different ways to skin this cat (no pun
intended). Everything from creating a script in /etc/init.d/ to using
jsvc. I was hoping someone out there, those of you out there who run
Tomcat in this manner, how did *you* set this up? I can't seem to get it
right. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or even direction to an
authoritative document.

java annoyances
Fresh install on a brand new box (Dell Precision 3500) of 5.6. I install
Sun java-1.6.0_26-b03, Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02,
mixed mode)
Then
ln -s
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-sun-1.6.0.26.x86_64/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so
/usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins
about:plugins shows java enabled (oddly enough, I seem to have flash,
32-bit, in the 32 bit libs, and that doesn't show; guess

tomcat errors starting after upgrade from cent5.3 to 5.5 (/rebuild-jar-repository: error: Could not find)
We just upgraded Cent from 5.3 to 5.5 on a bunch of servers with
little to no issues (kudos to you guys) except on a few servers where
it appears we are having a problem w/ the Tomcat upgrade. Previously
our application server was working fine under 5.3 with Tomcat/Java
installed as such:
java-1.4.2-gcj-compat-1.4.2.0-40jpp.115
java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-0.30.b09.el5

ClassNotFoundException when running distributed job using rJava package
Hi,
I have a MapReduce Java code, which I am calling from R using rJava. I have
prepared the R package and tested that successfully. But when I deployed
the package in a cluster and executed it, I am getting
ClassNotFoundException. If I run the same job directly without integrating
with R, it runs perfectly.
Here is my R code:
