system, system32 and dll overrides
Hi,
Following on from my vfp app question hjere's the one about dll overrides:
Even when starting the app from its own top level directory I'm getting
warnings about not being able to load certain gdi32.dll, user32.dll and
shell32.dll.
Ignoring the warnings about gdi32.dll and user32.dll seems to have no ill
effect so I assume the program is simply checking for their presence. I

Gothic 3 - problem with start menu
Greetings,
once there was a time when Gothic 3 ran poorly on wine but had no
difficulties with displaying the start menu. Now, with a fresh ~/.wine,
the trailers behave nicely but when it comes to the start menu, it is
not displayed.
A significant error line regarding this is:

Using Windows XP dll's as overrides
Hi,
I started using Wine (v. 20020804, compiled from tarball using
/tools/wineinstall) only a few days ago, and right now I'm trying to use
simple programs such as mIRC or WinMX 3.22.
I read FranksWorld.net's guide on how to make the latter work with
Windows 9x dll's, and it worked like a charm. For all those interested,
you can find it here:

Dear good wine people,

variables in templates
Here''s the problem I''m trying to solve.
I use apache, for lots of things, some of those things are configured from a
performance standpoint differently.
In less vague terms I need to be able to change the MaxClients setting to
different things based on the different purposes apache serves. (say proxy
vs. app)
Under previous CMS/templating engines I would have a httpd.conf that

[LLVMdev] DWARF location lists
In the version of LLVM I'm using (Apple tag 2352.1), it seems that the DWARF emitter cannot produce DWARF location lists to outline when user variables live and where. Instead it uses a crutch of DW_AT_start_scope to specify each solitary location where an assignment to a user variable does occur.
This is unsatisfactory for machines that put user variables in registers because it doesn't

Confusion about Dll Overriding
the winecfg confused me about DLL overriding. In the 'libraries' tab,
if i specified a Dll file name and click 'Add', how does Wine know
where to load the native file when need? does it mean i also have to
copy the native file into the "c:\windows\system[32]" directory? if
so, why i have to bother with the winecfg, why not directlly copy
files into the

Red Alert / Red Alert II / Tiberium Sun: Overriding wsock32.dll to avoid IPX
Background:
Red Alert / Red Alert II / C&C / Tiberium Sun uses IPX for LAN play.
According to AppDB, this works, at least for Red Alert II (Orginal RA
is not on the first page of Google results...), but it requires Wine
to be run as root.
Since I do not have IPX installed and I'm not normally in a mood to
recompile my kernel, and the Windows users that I want to play against

problem with dpwsockx.dll and Baldurs Gate II
I'm trying to make Baldurs Gate II multiplayer working. I've used DLLs
from archive on http://wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlayGames (and from my
WinXP install). I've added DLL overrides (native, builtin) for: dplayx,
dpnet, dpnhpast but the last: dpwsockx isn't on the list in winecfg.
When I try to start a multiplayer game wine has a memory leak or
something - goes to SWAP, everything is

Using comctl32.dll legal?
One of my friends wondered how legal is it to use native comctl32.dll in wine? He owns a license, and he called to MS support, and they told him that Windows is unsplittable piece of software, so comctl32.dll cannot be used separately.
So, what's the deal?

how to override dll
I notice that there are some proxy dll inside system32 eg. comctl32.dll, What is
the correct procedure to override it? Is that OK that just to copy my native
comctl32.dll to overwrite that dll and then run winecfg to set the override tab?
And if that proxy dll was overwritten, how to restore to use built-in version?

dll override for select apps only
I've been experimenting with Wine on Ubuntu Edgy.
I installed WinRAR, and when it didn't work, I looked at this page:
http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=winrar350
First I copied the required dll (comctl32.dll) over from Windows to the
program dir (not the Wine windows dir), then tried to add it via winecfg,
simply entering the name in the dialog.
Then Winecfg couldn't start again.

dll override basic question
Hi Folks,
I'm new to Wine and have some basic questions that I couldn't find answer to in the FAQ or forums.
Some posts talk about dropping in native dlls into the .wine/.../system32 directory to get apps working, while some posts (and the FAQ) talk about using the wine configuration tool.
In order to properly override a DLL, do I install a copy from an MS-windows installation AND

Getting a new app added to the AppDB?
Hi,
Have looked at all the FAQ's, searched here on the Forums, etc., and can't seem to find out how you actually get in touch with any of the App Maintainers, (if you're not one yourself) to start getting a new app, (in this case, Fallout 3, which just came out yesterday and I'm trying to start to futz with, so really would appreciate a location where folks might be able to

Accessing Rails Models/app from command line script
Hi,
Can someone point me to some info on how to access Rails models /
ActiveRecord classes from a Ruby command line script?
Say I have a plain text file that is put into some directory by an
outside process, and I want to have a Ruby script run, via a cron job,
that can open and parse that data file. It would then delete all
records in some lookup table in my database and load it with the data
