Even more (U)EFI questions
I have not looked into it all that much. But seems that UEFI basically allows booting without a bootloader. Here is some gentoo wiki info in it: http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/EFI_stub_kernel And Greg Kroah-Hartman talking about it a bit: http://kroah.com/log/blog/2013/09/02/booting-a-self-signed-linux-kernel/ I am looking forward to making a little HOWTO, for this subject and also for using

Internet reports that I'm 1-of-many victims, failing to run linux on new/cheap laptops. Eg. quad-Atom; connex L1470. What is syslinux's recomended method to overcome <WinTel's UEFI lockout> using a USBbootStik ? Are wifi drivers: RTL8723BS for linux available yet ? ==TIA.

Some (U)EFI questions
Hi everyone, for UEFI bootable media I currently use preloader+gummiboot while on BIOS media I use isolinux/extlinux. Since maintaining two configurations is some kind of extra work, I plan switching to syslinux in the next weeks or months. Creating an UEFI boot partition or El-Torito image seems easy: Use preloader, hashtool and the syslinux efi file, copy them to the FAT image and be

In fact I usually use preloader.efi (with keytool.efi and hashtool.efi for secure boot) and gummiboot.x64.efi to boot EFI stub kernels on x86_64. But until short time a go I had no idea someone would try to sell 32 bit UEFI on

isohybrid --uefi - resulting EF00 partition too small
Hello everyone, I am maintaining a distribution loosely based on LFS and am now trying to add UEFI support. Integrating a FAT formatted partition image containing, preloader, gummiboot, kernel and initramfs correctly results in a ISO image that is bootable on BIOS and UEFI systems if booted from the optical drive. However, when I run isohybrid --uefi name-of.iso the resulting GPT entry for

Getting classic BIOS and UEFI boot on the same disk?
Hi all, We're using the classic boot BIOS syslinux successfully for many years, but meanwhile it's getting harder to buy hardware the still supports this boot mode. The option for us would be syslinux EFI boot. To avoid too many changes we would like to generate an image for our different hardware parts that supports both - classic BIOS boot and (U)EFI boot. This would allow us to leave

Google Earth: WINEDEBUG=+relay makes wine-preloader <defunct>
Hello! Using the latest cvs version Google Earth finally installs without using native DLLs. As it does not run I'm trying to find out why. When running it, GE stops with a message box apologizing for not working. So I'd like to run it in winedbg, but I only get WineDbg starting on pid 0xa Process of pid=0x0000000a has terminated and not the friendly box. Perhaps GE uses some kind

Unable to get syslinux.efi to work, grub2 boots tho
Hi, I am trying to get a UEFI bootable USB. And I am unable to make it working. I have two x86_64 systems and both of them 'hangs' when I choose to boot UEFI from USB. I've created fat32 formated partition with ef00 type. I placed EFI/BOOT there with content of efi64/ distribution, I've created syslinux.cfg and renamed syslinux.efi to BOOTX64.EFI. However, it does just

Creating Syslinux UEFI usb boot
I am looking for guides on how to create syslinux uefi bootable usb. A syslinux bootable usb is created already with vesamenu and luascripting. Want to set up the same thing to be UEFI compatible. In this case I am booting an vmware esxi installer. /EFI/boot on the vmware ISO has the files?BOOTX64.EFI and?BOOTIA32.EFI that can be used on the usb. But these always go directly to boot.cfg,

wine and wine-preloader segfault when running Evernote 4.2.2
I installed Evernote 4.2.2 build 3913 under wine 1.3.14 on Fedora 14 after reading in the AppDB that Evernote 4 works well for others, albeit with sometimes slugging performance. I got Evernote to install just fine, but running it crashes every time. I tried configuring the Evernote wine environment as XP and Windows 7, and have the same problem. When I launch the Evernote.exe, it launches a few
