Question about .bs and .bss style bootsectors.
Hello
Recently I've been happily experimenting with syslinux, replacing grub
and my old bootmanager. All works beautifully, but I have one question -
in case of .bss bootsectors - what exactly and under what circumstances
is patched in ?
With syslinux used as main bootmanager - bootsectors from xp64, xp32 and
[pre-syslinux] msdos 7.1 (98se) work perfectly fine when chainloaded

Cluster Size discrepancy between FAT32 and NTFS
Hi,
I am not an engineer or linux expert but I have been using syslinux to boot
live disk filesets (extracted from iso's) residing on fat32 and NTFS volumes.
In FAT32 there has been no problem going with larger cluster sizes up to the nominal maximum of 64K
however, with NTFS it has not been possible to exceed the cluster size of 4096.
With NTFS formatted using clusters of 8192 or larger,

Trying to multiboot bartpe & puppy linux on a usb flash with syslinux
Hey list,
I have an older 2005 Uniwill 259ia3 with a Phoenix bios.
Flash booting is limited to keys 512 MB or less!
Here's my setup recipe:
used the HP utility v. 2.0.6 giving me this geometry
---------------- fdisk -l -----------
Disk /dev/sdb: 493 MB, 493879296 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

syslinux write intended bootsector to bootsectorfile support?
HPA,
is it possible to add a parameter/argument to syslinux.com/syslinux.exe to specify a file?
currently it's something like SYSLINUX A:
I'd like the following also to be possible:
SYSLINUX A: A:\SYSLINUX.BIN
It still copies LDLINUX.BIN to A:, but writes the generated bootsector intended for drive A: to a 512byte user-specified file
Perhaps to allow both at the same time even SYSLINUX

RFE: create batch without patching
Hi,
Currently, rsync --write-batch creates the batch fileset and also
updates the destination. I suggest adding the ability to disable the latter.
Motivation: I wish to sync two large but similar directories residing in
different machines. There is a slow (dial-up) network connection between
the machines, but I have physical access to both. Thus, I would like to
create a batch fileset by

Samba and Win2k: Printing from Outlook Express
Hi,
we are operating the IT of a small non-profit organization with a Samba
server (2.2.5) and roughly 15 Win2k workstations. Everything works
fine so far but one single issue: Printing messages from Outlook
Express: only the header of the mail is printed, no single line of the body.
All the domain users are standard-users (I'm not sure about the
correct English wording, may be someone

syslinux bootsector info?
Mr Anvin,
is there a specific loading address used with the Syslinux bootsector (to load ldlinux.sys)?
like msdos 0x70,
freedos 0x60
we're trying to have a SYS program that can create bootsector for other OS's than FreeDOS only. not much luck though :(
this way I'm trying to avoid the use of syslinux.exe/com
(need the diskspace that it would save by not including this program)

install opt-samba-base on aix 5.3
I am trying to install samba 3.0.24 on aix 5.3. I have downlaoded the binaries
from samba.org and I am using the directions found at:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/AIX/
The directions dont specify installing the base. WHen I try to install the
pware 3.0.24, it fails due to required packages missing.
I do not see a way to get opt-samba-base installed.

rsync+ (batch mode) feature suggestion
Bert,
Hi. If you are still interested in your rsync+ project, changes for
which have evidently been (and are, perhaps, still being?) submitted
to the official, upstream rsync version, you may want to add the
following feature, proffered below, in order to conduce a little
greater batch mode usage flexibility primarily for those with above
average security concerns.
Currently (at least in the

Boot Sector Booting
Apparently there's a semi-new feature in SYSLINUX that will allow you to,
from what I've heard, boot DOS. I've got a portable USB flash drive and I've
managed to make it multi-boot with disk images, but that takes quite a bit
of memory. I think bootsector booting is the best way to go, but I have no
idea how to do it.
Tell me if I've got this right:
So, I want to get a flash

Syslinux Bootsector
Hi!
Facing a strange problem about not being able to access
the floppy drive after booting from a rescue-floppy with
2.2.x kernel on an asus p4te mainboard, i searched the
net and found a bug in the bootsector of the 2.2.x kernels.
Before control is redirected to the kernel, the floppy drive
is shut down in a way, that freezes the FD-Controller on
recent mainboards (like the ASUS P4T-E).

GPFS AFM Export Problem
Hi All,
I'm having a frustrating time exporting a GPFS Independent Writer AFM fileset through Samba.
Native GPFS directories exported through Samba seem to work properly, but when creating an export which points to an AFM IW fileset, I get "Access Denied" errors when trying to create files from an SMB client and even more unusual "Failed to enumerate objects in the container:

Disk free space, quotas and GPFS
I am migrating the main file servers at work onto a new storage platform
based on GPFS. I am using RHEL 5.6 with the samba3x packages (aka 3.5.4)
recompiled to get the vfs_gpfs and tsmsm modules, with a couple of extra
patches to vfs_gpfs module to bring it 3.5.8 level. It is running with
ctdb against Windows AD 2008 R2 domain controllers with all the
idmapping been held in the AD.
