pxelinux
Hello H. Peter,
we use pxelinux to start linux on desktop pcs. Now we have a problem
with the interaction of dhcp. If the ip address is not fix, we cannot
use the ip address as name for the configfile. A better solution would
be, first to check for the mac and then for the ip address.
Is it possible?
TIA,
Tobias

pxelinux fails to load miniroot completly
Hello,
we have the following problem:
- a new Dell Optiplex 740 boots pxelinux.0
- loads the kernel
- start to load the miniroot.gz and crashs after loading about 1/5 of the miniroot
The tftpd messages are:

more on PXELinux confiuration file woes
I performed an experiment in which I had dhcpd specify a named file ("foo")
instead of
one based on a client's MAC address. Lo and behold, the same problem
occured. The PXE
stack requested and was served the right file, the kernel loaded as did the
initrd. But again, the
boot sequence stopped at "Ready."
Keep in mind that the contents of the file are the same as was in the

pxelinux with redhat 8.0
Hi,
do you know of a reason why I can't seem to load the kernel from the redhat 8.0 pxeboot using pxelinux?
Same everything but with the kernels from 7.2 and 7.3 work fine.
More details:
- dhcp fine
- loads pxelinux.0 fine
- is able to get the pxelinux.cfg/<my config>
- starts to get the kernel image vmlinuz...
- stops after receiving only a few blocks over tftp (system hangs)

P.S. It's not this and I'm getting a PXE-E99 tftp failure "Unexepected Network Error", so I'll guess I'll need to investigate what kind of TFTP server makes hyper-v happy. Virtualbox, VmWare seem to have the same EFI boot code & output

pxelinux 4.03 taking forever to find ..../pxelinux.cfg/default
Hi,
Is there anything that controls the speed with which pxelinux.0 (4.03)
enumerates the files in .../pxelinux.cfg before it reaches the
.../pxelinux.cfg/default file ?

pxelinux takes too long trying all the config file options
Hi All,
I have a situation where I want to netboot and ONLY use pxelinux.cfg/default.
It seems to take FOREVER for pxelinux to try all of the config file
file options before falling through to default .... trying each
possible combination multiple times ... increasing the wait time
everytime it doesn't get a response.

PXE boot hangs after trying to load cfg/<max address>
Hi,
i'm trying to get my VIA Epia with VIA Rhine ethernet device to boot
PXELinux. I have done this before, but now i can't get it to work.
The machine loads pxelinux.0, i see some messages. But it fails just
after trying reading the first config file (the one with the mac
address). It kinda says this (transcribed):

PXELINUX 4.10-pre*
So far I tested PXELINUX from 4.10-pre12, 4.10-pre9 and 4.10-pre6.
The first two take a long time with a TFTP file not found and
eventually find my file but error out (presumably to kaboom). The
last takes a long time, does a lot of retransmitted packets (didn't
watch the first two), then eventually loads the file but continues
this behavior for TFTP and HTTP transfers. This is on VMware

pxelinux problems
Hi,
I'm seeing a strange problem when using pxelinux - it loads OK initially
and finds pxelinux.cfg/default, but then hangs.
Looking in the server's /var/log/messages, I find this:

Mar 18 14:01:38 fal000phys02 xinetd[6441]: tftp service was deactivated because

Adding an AD group to /etc/sudoers?
# cat /proc/sys/kernel/ngroups_max
65536
# sysctl kernel.ngroups_max
kernel.ngroups_max = 65536
Is there a way to change/look at AUTH_SYS?
Seems I have 28 groups now as my user
I tried created a test user with much less groups
but it turns out it is on all those other groups.
As such I tried
winbind nested groups=no
but this doesn't seem to change anything.

maybe it'll work when f27 comes out in a few days I'll wait for it.

gpxelinux local disk boot does not work
I have a lab in which I keep all my computers set to try network boot
first that way it is easy to put a file in pxelinux.cfg of the mac
address of a faulty machine and have it build itself or run
diagnostics.
Up till recently I used pxelinux.0. I have been trying out gpxelinux
so that I can use its http fuctionality to download initrd images
faster to boot. I just discovered that its local boot

pxelinux efi64 boot woes on hyper-v gen 2
Gene,
As it happened I started working on this again just as you mailed me.
It appears that PXE-E99 may also be related to MTFTP part of the PXE spec. IBM also says it has something to do with jumbo frames. I tried setting PXE.mtcp-ip to 0.0.0.0 to disable it but still no joy.
The bootfile size shows up as zero because that relates to "option boot-size" in dhcp and doesn't seem to
