the lightning talks will be videotaped. We would also like to put any slides on
the conference web-page (as well as integrating them into the video). If people

That definitely sounds interesting. Do you add these attributes to

The ZFS-Man.
Hi.
I gave a talk about ZFS during EuroBSDCon 2007, and because it won the
the best talk award and some find it funny, here it is:

a bit better version is here:

BTW. Inspired by ZFS demos from OpenSolaris page I created few demos of

R 2.0.1 installation
Hello,
I'm a student in biology, writting from Strasbourg, France.
I need to use the logiciel R to analyse biological results. I have ADE4 since 2001, but technology's now largely evoluted !
That's why I'm just trying to get the new version of :
- ADE4_1.3-3.zip ;
- R 2.0.1.ter ;
- DCluster_0.1-3.zip.
However, I don't know HOW TO INSTALL R on my computer ? I don't

Apache under attack and eating resources?
This might be more related to an Apache-security list, but as the machine is
running FreeBSD, I thought I'd ask here first.
In the last two weeks, I've been seeing some very strange errors in my logs a
few times daily around the same times. While this happens, load averages go
through the roof (I've seen 36+, which is outragous), and the machine becomes
very unresponsive.

[Fwd: Re: force create mode]
Thanks Bart for your answer.
I did what you say force create mode = 0770 (default creat mask = 0744)
but the files that are created are still with the rights rwx rwx r--
Strange !

Prediction interval of Y using BMA
Hello everybody,
In order to predict income for different time points, I fitted a linear
model with polynomial effects using BMA (bicreg(...)). It works fine, the
results are consistent with what we are looking for.
Now, we would like to predict income for a future time point t_next and of
course draw the prediction interval around the estimated value for this
point t_next. I've found the

PCBSD & X11 ugh
So, I tried out PCBSD on a Dell "DHP" (what ever that is) (made feb '05).
it installs great
but when I run boot it, (FreeBSD comes up fine) teh X server goes into
an infinite loop somewhere.

geli or gbde encryption of slices
Hello,
I was playing around with geli an gbde after last EuroBSDCon.
I liked the idea of encrypting my data which resides in /home/$user.
Since this is a "single" user laptop i intended to encrypt the
whole /home partition. Well no problems with that. But i wanted
the lockfile or keyfile on a seperate usb disc. Which would be
mounted or used during boot of the system. I also used

disk image creation, step by step
Hi,
I am aware that it is impossible to netboot ISO files through
pxelinux/memdisk
and that there are multiple reasons for not even attempting it (like the
operating system which will try to access a physical optical drive
through its
own drivers anyway, BIOS issues etc.).
When people ask questions regarding ISO support in pxelinux/memdisk, they're
mostly told to convert the ISO into a

optimizing speed of calculation (recursive product)
Dear list,
I'm wondering how to optimize functions/processes like the one shown
below (which simplifies something we're trying to do with very large
datasets).
In many cases I've noticed that using apply, sapply etc can help
speeding up processes, but in this case I don't see how I could do so.

Old harware (intel 82845G card) stopped working after update (centos 6)
Hello. I apology in advance if I am not reporting things correctly,
but my knowledge about these things is very limited.
I have five Transtec computers, approximately born in July 2005; they
have an intel 82845G video card.
The last 'yum update' was on January 30, 2014. I did not reboot the
machines at that time. I cannot be sure about the date of the 'yum
update' preceding

Cluster analysis
Hello,
I would like to calculate a cluster analysis and I use the function 'hclust'.
I have seen the GRAPHICAL results of this function with 'plot'.
I would like to analyse this cluster but I don't know how to see the NUMERICAL results of each
step of this cluster like:
- R Squared
- Pseudo F
- Pseudo t**2
Thank you for any help,

nnet library and FANN package'm
Hello !
I'd like to know to which of the FANN package network corresponds the R nnet
network ?
In more details, what is the R nnet activation function, what is the
training algorithm (rprop, quickprop, ...) ? Also, it seems that the R nnet
"decay" parameter in nnet corresponds to the "learning_rate" parameter in
FANN. Correct ?
Many thanks in advance !
