I am running xfontsel. I dont seem to be able to select an helvetica
font > 34 points.
I am looking for something around 75 points. I dont seem to be able to

[ANNOUNCE] xfontsel 1.0.5
The xfontsel application provides a menu-based GUI to display the X11 core
protocol fonts known to your X server, examine samples of each, and
retrieve the X Logical Font Description ("XLFD") full name for a font.
This minor bugfix release finally fixes my long-festering pet peeve with
this tool - when a font fails to load, it will now continue to update the
text sample area instead of

MS Office Word - small fonts are aliased
Hi,
I installed MS Word 2007 on Debian Lenny using the latest Wine 1.3.20 - everything seems running ok. The only thing that I don't like are the fonts.
I enabled with winetricks the font smoothing, but....
Some of them (Times New Roman, Calibri, expecially) still look aliased at given dimensions (12pt and below): increasing their size solves the problem and they become anti-aliased, but this

Antialiasing?
Does wxRuby support font antialiasing on Linux or does it depend on the
underlying toolkit? If not, are there plans to include it?
If I use wxGTK, is antialiasing automatically enabled? Do I have to do
something to make my fonts antialiased?

Antialiasing plots and text on different devices
I have a question about antialiasing when R generates bitmaps. (This follows
a thread on the ggplot2 mailing list.)
I mostly use R on Linux, although I sometimes use it in Mac and Windows as
well. On Linux, I've found that plotting shapes 15-18 via cairo results in
bad-looking output. The points are not antialiased, and they are jagged and
misshapen. Plots generated in Windows also aren't

How to disable font antialiasing?
Hi I was trying to run mu-online, I'm using wine 1.3.10 under kubuntu 10.04
The game installs(with vcrun2005,vcrun2008 and mcf42 from winetricks) But I can't see the fonts.
To see the fonts I read I have to disable anti-aliasing, this was possible in older versions of wine, but for some reasons it was disabled, or moved, any idea on how I can disable anti-aliasing?

Font anti-aliasing in wine?
One of the things that DOES make a big difference for me is font-antialiasing (AA). (OK, maybe I am picky). Does anyone have experience/knowledge on that subject?
What surprises me is that for a few fonts (BitStream Vera Sans, for instance), it is active, whereas it is completely absent for most others. Why is that? (BTW, I just found out that I get the best results so far for the new MS font

Font / charset encoding problem?
I have successfully installed and launched Sibelius (music typesetting
software) on linux (with codeweavers preview 4, w/ a fake_windows install).
It works fairly well, and would probably deserve a 4 on the app database.
Except for the fonts, which kind of defies the purpose of a typesetting
software! Here are the symptoms and some log activities :
* No musical symbols are displayed (except

Help with fonts
I recently changed to a new computer and reinstalled linux. I'm
not happy with the current fonts and I see that the whole fonts
area has been revamped, so any old notes I have are obsolete.
Can anyone help me out?
The first and major issue is that when an installation program I
am running tries to display "C:\Program Files" it comes out
looking like CWProgram Files.

/etc/aliases file wildcard
I have been trying to find out if the /etc/aliases file
can accept wildcards in the user name
I was hoping that a line like or similiar:
machine*: myaccount
would take any name matching machine* and forward onto the myaccount
mailbox.
man aliases didnt really help me nor did I find anything else.
Is there a way to pattern match in /etc/aliases with an * or something?
Thanks,

has something happened to grep
Hi all,
when I do a "grep JERRY *.h" nothing is returned which is what I expect.
This is in my source directory...
when I do a "grep JERRY *" every file is returned an a line printed even
though there is no JERRY on the line.
Then if I do a "grep JERRY *.c" just the 4 lines that have JERRY are
returned.
This is what is prints for "grep JERRY *"

missing fonts for centos 4?
there seem to be very few iso8859-1 (latin-1) fonts. in particular the
lucidatypewriter fonts aren't there for 8859-1. but it does have 8859-2.
just playing with xfontsel i see about 800 8859-1 fonts and 2000 8859-2.
did something get left out? i did an everything install. and further
poking with yum doesn't show any other font packages that could be
installed.

Error: Widget field13 has zero width and/or height
Greetings,
An update via cvsup (attempting to chase 5.4 stable) on 2006-02-20 @2:40 PM
resulted in a couple of disappointments;
1) after re-building the kernel (cvsupped the SRC on SMP as well) and
installing it. I performed a build/ install world and portupgrade -a.
The portupgrade -a took 2 full days on a base of 246 installed ports.
And resulted in a *465 installed ports base*. Ouch! It's

Compaq V2000 laptop no USB recognized
To continue here with problems on this compaq v2000
laptop, I put kernel source on a USB disk and plugged it
into the v2000. NOTHING IS recognized.
I tried to manually mount the disk and nothing either...
I thought USB was well established....
I thought trying to recompile the kernel for realtek support
might get my networking going...
I am stuck???

Symbol Fonts under Wine
Hello!
I have a specialized math typesetting programming that uses its own
special symbol fonts. The fonts are TrueType. I am using XFree86
version 4.0.1 running on FreeBSD 4.2, with the FreeType module loaded.
All of my regular TrueType fonts work fine with X programs and under
Wine. The symbol TrueType fonts work fine with X programs (such as
xfontsel or xfd), but under Wine, many of the
