I have found very little information about this problem on the net, so i

I am running mac os x 10.4 on a powerbook and have installed ruby 1.8.6 and
was trying to get ferret to work, without any success.
Here is exactly what i did and what happened:

crash while building index
Hi,
I''m trying to reindex a model (I''m using acts_as_ferret) after having
added (via metaprogramming) a large number of fields (several hundred)
to the index.
It keeps crashing when trying to rebuild the index (the crash log is
below, from ferret_server.out) but it only seems to crash on Linux
(Ubuntu server 7.04, x86-64) whereas it''s fine on my OS X laptop

Upon opening an existing index after upgrading to the 0.9.2 ferret gem

Possible bug when creating a Ferret::Search::Sort object?
I may have run across a bug in Ferret: if throws a segmentation fault
when I try to create a Sort object using the default fields (SCORE and
DOC_ID), but setting reverse to true.
Here''s the minimal example:
#!/usr/bin/env ruby
require ''rubygems''
require ''ferret''

Recent crashes
Hi,
After figuring out the strange "rdoc" related crashes yesterday I''ve
really started to test out puppet today. However, as my manifests
become more complex I''m back to seeing random crashes again.
I read the recent message in the archives of this list about
downgrading to Debian''s libruby1.8-1.8.4-1 but it seems like only the

Ferret install, rake failing on make
I''m currently trying to install the latest version of Ferret (0.10.9)
on my Ubuntu Dapper (6.06) system. I have tried the gem, but it does
not generate the ferret_ext.so file. Ideally I would prefer to install
from the gem, but if source works, I''m fine with that too.
I am now trying an install from source, but when I run the command ''$
rake ext'' I get the

NameError uninitialized constant Ferret::Index::FieldInfos
Hi Everyone,
I''ve a RoR application. I am trying to build full text search capability
into it. I installed Ferret. After that I installed the act_as_ferret
plugin. I''ve also put the acts_as_ferret inside the <model>.rb file .
I''m using the find_by_contents to get the search results.
I''m getting the following error. I''ve no clue and I

Ferret 0.3.0 released
Hi folks,
This latest release of Ferret has a lot of improvements. There have
been substantial improvements to performance. Try it for yourself to
see. I won''t be publishing any numbers just yet. I will say though
that it''s still about 2-4 times slower than Lucene with the extension
installed. There is also some performance improvements in the pure
Ruby version if you

Mongrels stop responding
I have a Rails 1.2.3 app (due for an update, I know) running on a
Mongrel 1.1.4 behind Apache 2.2.3 mod_proxy on Debian 4.0. It keeps
hanging up for no reason I can tell. I have tried everything that anyone
has ever hinted at being a solution for this problem:
- The application doesn''t use MySQL, so setting the connection timeout
won''t help.
- Using AR not PStore for sessions.

Hi,
Not sure if there is a better place to post this. The libxml-ruby mailing
list doesn''t have much activity.
We are getting occasional errors on our production box, that I can''t
duplicate in testing. It''s not even reproducible on the production box
with the same inputs, but I''ve managed to track down (via a lot of print

install ferret on windows
Hi!
I''m trying to install ferret on windows, so I chose
ferret-0.10.9-mswin32.gem from the download page, as it includes a
already pre-compiled ferret_ext.so (is that correct?) and I don''t have
any C compiler here. The gem installed it correctly, but the test didn''t
work. So I called these commands:
rake ext
ruby setup.rb config
ruby setup.rb setup
