[WARN] Got 99% CPU?
Hey folks,
I ran into a few people at RubyConf who were having 99% CPU issues. Please contact me if you meet the following criteria:
1. You are running a production site.
2. You are experiencing 99% CPU errors.
3. This is frequent enough that you cannot manage it.
Thank you. Please contact me off-list about it.

Random(?) action hanging
Is this the behavior that supposedly indicates a problem with a
particular action? Mongrel in development mode randomly hangs on
random actions. Further requests cause USR1 logs like:
Mon Sep 18 13:04:03 PDT 2006: 0 threads sync_waiting for /, 2 still active in mongrel.
Mon Sep 18 13:07:52 PDT 2006: 1 threads sync_waiting for /public/stylesheets/table.css, 3 still active in mongrel.

Memory usage issues
Hello all,
I''m new to Mongrel and am very impressed with what I see so far. This
thing beats FastCGI hands down, and is even simpler to use than SCGI.
Great job Zed! Thanks for all the hard work.
I am a bit surprised at the memory usage patterns though. I''m not
sure if I''m doing something wrong (most likely I am), or if this is a
problem with the app I''m

Making Mongrel play well with Monit
Hi!
I run a mongrel cluster with 6 mongrels in it. I want to monitor them
individually for process hangs (and then restart them) and this is the
solution I came up with:
Here''s my configuration file for monit (/usr/local/etc/monitrc): [snipped
relevant bits]
------
#check lighttpd process
check process lighttpd with pidfile /var/run/lighttpd.pid
start program =

Mongrel spewing backtraces and nanosleeping
Hi list,
I''m seeing a couple of issues with Mongrel. I''m running FreeBSD 6.1 and
have previously been told that there are known conflicts between this
and Mongrel, yet I hope these issues will be resolved with time.
I''m overloading Mongrel with httperf on my local workstation. Mongrel is
started directly with the mongrel_rails command and there is only one

Clustering - Avoiding "dead" processes?
I have Mongrel Cluster setup with Apache a mod_proxy_balancer. I''ve seen (from time to time) mongrel instances become non-responsive. Is there anyway to configure the balancer so that it "knows" which processes are no longer good and stops trying to use them?

what is the correct way to stop/start a mongrel instance using monit with mongrel cluster
Hi --
I have been reading documentation and googling around to find the
correct way to do this but I have found many ways that seem to not
work, or the documentation makes no reference to.
I am using mongrel cluster with 10 mongrels for each server. Recently
I installed monit but which lead me to find the correct way to
start/stop mongrel instances one pid at a time. I am assuming one pid

Segmentation bug - file_column?
Hi there everybody,
We''re having mongrel processes slowly die on us, with a segmentation
fault. I''ve seen a few other people mention similar issues. Any info
or suggestions would be nice:

monit vs mongrel cluster
Is there anything mongrel cluster gives you that monit doesn''t? I''ll
be using monit to monitor a number of other services anyways, so it
seems logical to just use it for everything including mongrel.

problems with apache 2.2 proxying to mongrel cluster
Hi all,
I''ve been having problems with the apache 2.2-mod_proxy_balancer-
mongrel setup.
My setup is:
CentOS 4.3
apache 2.2.3 (compiled from source) with mod_proxy_balancer
mysql 4.1
ruby 1.8.4
mongrel 0.3.14 (I know I need to update but I think this problem is
independent of the mongrel version)
mongrel_cluster 0.2.0
rails_machine 0.1.1
I have apache setup as per Coda''s

Rails App on Mongrel+Apache Stops Listening
Howdy,
I''m trying to debug a situation where a Rails app running on Mongrel
+Apache stops listening to requests. Restarting Mongrel and Apache
brings it back to life.
First off, here''s some info on versions, etc...:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 8)
ruby 1.8.5 (2006-12-04 patchlevel 2) [x86_64-linux]

Rails 1.2.1

Mongrels dying on FreeBSD 5.5-STABLE......why why why?
Yo Zed and everyone else, I''m having a major problem I''m hoping someone can
help with.
I''ve been running mongrel clusters for a few months with no problems on a
couple of my boxes. They both run Debian...
I recently moved one of my older Rails apps on a FreeBSD 5.5 box to mongrel
as well. Everything runs quickly and wonderfully - when it''s running! My

Is mongrel stable enough to be used in a production environment? Is it
stable?
If so, which version is recommended?
Thanks,

mongrel_cluster-0.1.1: the bird dog (capistrano support!)
Hey y''all:
mongrel_cluster provides management tools for running Mongrel behind
a reverse-proxy/load balancer. It is an extraction from Rails
Machine, a deployment service and Ruby library that simplifies Rails
application deployment. This release fixes bugs and adds a Capistrano
task library.
Changes:
-changed pid file format to include port
-only write configuration options

Mongrel can''t handle some URLs that IE6 sends
IE6 happily sends unsafe* characters unencoded if you''ve typed them
into the URL bar of your IE6 window. This could happen if you copy &
paste a URL from an email or web page.
Mongrel doesn''t seem to handle these properly. In 0.3.13.3 it would
print out something like:
Sun Oct 15 23:05:38 CST 2006: BAD CLIENT (192.168.1.2): Invalid
HTTP format, parsing fails.

Monit + Mongrel woes
Hello all,
So, I''ve been using monit with mongrel for a while now, since the
0.3.x days (I think it was). It used to work fine, but now I seem to
be having some trouble. I''m currently using mongrel 1.0.1 and I am
using the same monit configuration I''ve always been using, yet
everytime monit should restart mongrel, I get "Execution failed".

Machine reboot - monit fails to start mongrels
Greetings -
I dug around a bit and I couldn''t find a definitive answer to this
question, apologies if it''s been covered before. A box running a
apache 2.2 -> mongrel cluster for a rails app got power cycled at my
ISP. Unfortunately monit couldn''t start the mongrel processes
because the pid files were still there. Here is my monit config (for

How do you use Mongrel?
Hey folks,
I''m working on the Mongrel book with Zed, and wanted to get some
feedback from the core users (this list) about how they use Mongrel.
That sounds a bit vague, but I''m interested in hearing things about
frustrating problems / workaround, preferred configurations, if you
have a particular way you set up / store your config files when
developing / deploying an
