puppet: 3.1.1 -> 3.2.1 load increase
Hi,
I recently updated from puppet 3.1.1 to 3.2.1 and noticed quite a bit of
increased load on the puppetmaster machine. I''m using
the Apache/passenger/rack way of puppetmastering.
Main symptom is: higher load on puppetmaster machine (8 cores):
- 3.1.1: around 4
- 3.2.1: around 9-10
Any idea why there''s more load on the machine with 3.2.1?

Input/output error
Hi All,
About once a week, I get a this strange error on bash command line.
Running any command on the command line results in " Input/output
error". Only way to get back to normal operation is to hard reboot the
machine. I suspect this is something to do with my file system. I am
using RH7.3 with ext3 file system on IBM Travelstar drives.
I use dd to duplicate the drives. The source

preallocation=full Vs preallocation=metadata
Hi All
I was reading through this:
http://kashyapc.com/2011/12/02/little-more-disk-io-perf-improvement-with-fallocateing-a-qcow2-disk/
I was basically searching for pointers on improving disk I/O.
I wanted to know the purpose of preallocation=full &
preallocation=metadata , What is the difference between them ? and which
one would yield a better disk I/O speed ?
Appreciate your

Samba memoeur usage and IPC$
Hi all,
I have a question about memory usage and IPC$ share.
I'am auditing the swap usage of my server because I already have a problem
with a full swap.
I see that the smbd process take < 200Mo on swap :
Example :
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
24429 lge 15 0 197m 39m 14m S 0.3 1.0 0:15.17 smbd
but some process use more than 200Mo

Memory Leak with PHP
I understand that this problem may have very little to do with CentOs, but it happens to occur on a CentOS webserver and maybe you?ll have a clue.
Since a few months, after many upgrades on several blogs (now running with PHP7), our server is eating up RAM no end. PHP processes swell to over 2 GB (each) and when the whole RAM and the whole swap are full, problems stack up and finally paralyze the

No. virt-sparsify will use the same input and output formats, unless
you use the --convert option.

Software RAID and GRUB on CentOS 7
Hi,
When I perform a software RAID 1 or RAID 5 installation on a LAN server
with several hard disks, I wonder if GRUB already gets installed on each
individual MBR, or if I have to do that manually. On CentOS 5.x and 6.x,
this had to be done like this:
# grub
grub> device (hd0) /dev/sda
grub> device (hd1) /dev/sdb
grub> root (hd0,0)
grub> setup (hd0)
grub> root (hd1,0)

Resize ocfs....?
I've tried several times to resize one of my ocfs volumes[see emcpowere1 below]
I'm on the latest [prod] version of ocfs/ocfs-tools as of 3pm EST on 18JUL04.
Per instructions...
Take down db, unmount all ocfs drives, use ' tuneocfs -F -S 100G /dev/emcpowere1 '
Supposedly this should work, but I get get....
The size specified, 100G, is larger than the device size, 59G.
Aborting.

Write failure on distributed volume with free space available
Hello,
Thanks to "partner" on IRC who told me about this (quite big) problem.
Apparently in a distributed setup once a brick fills up you start
getting write failures. Is there a way to work around this?
I would have thought gluster would check for free space before writing
to a brick.
It's very easy to test, I created a distributed volume from 2 uneven
bricks and started to
