Sort logfiles on common lines?
I have a huge mysql.log file full of errors. I'd like to sort it by the most common line, and work from there. I did go through the manpage for sort, and googled a bit, but I found nothing relevant. Here is an example of the output: [root@ log]# tail mysqld.log 110925 11:05:35 [ERROR] /usr/libexec/mysqld: Incorrect key file for table './ox_data_summary_ad_hourly.MYI'; try to repair it

Existence of non-vectorised functions
Dear R-Group: Recently, I ran into a problem. I was using a function called "I.1", which evaluates the first-order modified Bessel function of the first kind, in the package "CircStats". This function is not vectorized, since it uses a couple of "if" conditions. However, when I called this function with a vector argument, I got no error/warning messages in

OT: vmware server not accepting root password?
Sorry for the OT question; I'm hoping someone else has a similar setup and ran into this same problem? For some reason, not sure what I changed, my vmware server is no longer accepting the root login for the management console or web mui interface. I'm certain the password is correct, and I've even reset root's password to make sure. VMware seems to be running ok, I can access

How to make big MySQL database more diffable/rsyncable? (aka rsyncing big files)
Hello group, I'm having a very hard time rsyncing efficiently a MySQL database which contains very large binary blobs. (Actually, it's the database of Mantis bug tracker [http://www.mantisbt.org/], with file attachments stored directly in the table rows. I know it's a bad idea from many other reasons, but let's say it was given to me as such.) First, I was dumping the

question about why rsync log doesn't include remot ip or remote host
Hello all, This is my first post to this mailing list. I have been using rsync for a bit and have it mostly working the way I want. I have a backup server that I run all scripts from. It rsyncs data from four different Linux servers via cron. A sample of a script is here: rsync -avz --log-format="%t %b %f %l %M" --delete --stats -e "ssh -i /root/rsync/authors-rsync-key"

Transfer hangs, both sides waiting on receive
Hi, We're encountering a rather weird, sporadic hang during a large-file transfer. A bit of background on the setup: - Host A rsyncs a MySQL database from Host B. Both sides use rsync 3.1.1 on Debian Jessie. - Host B serves the files using rsync --daemon from an ext4 filesystem residing on a thin LVM snapshot. - Host A uses the following command to rsync the files to a btrfs

Possible mysql database corruption
Hi, I posted earlier about 'sip show registry' not showing any trunks and there seeming to be no attempt by one of my systems to register with our service provider. Following some notes elsewhere I ran 'myisamchk *.MYI' on the mysql database and it came up with an error in sip.MYI, which I repaired. Unfortunately, still no registration so I backed up the database, deleted the

CentOS 4.4 not seeing all RAM
Hi Everyone, My server is only seeing 4.8 GB out of 6 GB available. I don't know why. I have a CentOS 4.4 x86_64 server running on a Tyan s2895 with 6 GB of RAM (two 1 GB sticks and 2 2 GB sticks). I upgraded the RAM, powered up the server, and when CentOS was finished booting, checked the available RAM with free. This is what it's reporting: total used

I'm pulling my hair out trying to setup a mirrored logical volume. lvconvert tells me I don't have enough free space, even though I have hundreds of gigabytes free on both physical volumes. Command: lvconvert -m1 /dev/vg1/iscsi_deeds_data Insufficient suitable allocatable extents for logical volume : 10240 more required Any ideas? Thanks!, Gordon Here's the output from the

Wave Header Question
I'm reordering the code in ao_wav.c that writes wav files to prevent the problem we had earlier. If ogg123 was improperly terminated (Segfault, kill -9, etc.), the output wav file was not even recognizable because the header was totally blank. I have found that at the start of playback (from libao's perspective), I know all of the wav header info except two things: 1) The length of the

Increasing mail_max_userip_connections and sys resources
In our low-traffic server we have always kept the default value for IMAP mail_max_userip_connections (10). The server has been working fine! (Thank you Timo for this!) However, recently we have been having: Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded errors both for IMAP and webmail users. Thus, we have now changed the value to 100. The questions: 1.Might this lead to
