Centos 5.1
I'm about to try Centos 5 (first time user).
Question: I have the 5.0 CD-ROMs, so can I install with them and them
update to 5.1 via the internet, or should I use the 5.1 CDs?
Thanks.

5.1 Upgrade Not Working?
So both "yum upgrade" and "yum update" now are complete and there's no
new packages. However, when I attempt to check my version, I'm still
showing 5.
# cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS release 5 (Final)
I remember seeing 5.1 repositories being access for the upgrades. Is
it possible my system did not upgrade?
# uname -r
2.6.18-53.1.4.el5.centos.plus
Thanks,

mdadm exim mysql
I installed a CentOS-5 core OS (using --nobase in my kickstart).
For some reason, it included mysql-5.0.22.
When I do "yum remove mysql", it says it will also remove
exim and mdadm for dependencies.
I don't care that exim will be removed, but I need mdadm as
I'm doing software RAID.
But why are these even related? When I do:
rpm -q --requires mysql
neither exim or mdadm is

Hi all,
I'm having issue with my Centos 5.1 /Xen installation.
I'm having 2 dom0 running 2.6.18-53.1.4.el5xen (x86_64).
These two dom0 are connected to a SAN.
These two dom0 hosts multiple domU like Centos 4.5 (2.6.9-55.0.9.ELxenU)
and Centos 5.1 (2.6.18-53.1.4.el5xen).
These two dom0 run ntpd to synchronize dom0 time.
When i start a virtual machine on the first dom0 all seems good, the

How to generate UUID for Xen?
The new virtual machine manager in Centos 5.1 displays some weird behavior
here and I assume it's because the UUID of one running VM is the same as
of a VM that is shut down. I used the same config file template for
creating all my test VMs, so several have the same UUID. Didn't produce
any problems with xm. But the new VM manager in Gnome shows active and
inactive VMs and identifies

Issue with dom0 xen ballooning
Hi all,
I'm having issue with my Centos 5.1 /Xen installation.
I'm having some dom0 running 2.6.18-53.1.6.el5xen (x86_64).
On the dom0 where the load is high (more than 70% of total system memory
consumed by dom0 and domU) we have a lot of "memory squeeze ".
The result is that the domU seems to be blocked (no network/no disk
acces/ etc....).
Looking for a solution in xen

Running CentOS 4.6 domUs on CentOS 5.1 dom0 and domUs crash
I have a CentOS 5.1 dom0 running on a machine with two cores and 4gb
of memory. It runs three 4.6 domUs and one 5.1 domU. Just out of the
blue the other night all the 4.6 domUs crashed, but the dom0 stayed up.
I ran xm console (domU-name) and got the Oops information below. I
didn't get anything from the 5.1 domU. I think it had been rebooted a
few days before and hadn't come up

sdc1 without the sdc
So I'm working with the iSCSI Initiator and an EqualLogic SAN. I'm
not sure when this might have happened, but it appears that the
/dev/sdc device is missing, yet the /dev/sdc1 partition exists AND is
mountable. Is there a method to re-create the /dev/sdc device? I
cannot dd or fdisk it, obviously, but I can mount the /dev/sdc1
partition and it works just fine. Not having the /dev/sdc

32bit support in 64bit environment (CentOS and Debian)
Hi,
I was just searching the web for some information on 32bit support in 64bit environment and was able
to find couple pages about Debian and CentOS. However, I couldn't find any comparison between them.
If anyone knows the differences (e.g. which one is easier to set up and maintain) or could point me
out to some useful sites, please help. Or if you think there's no difference,

kernel-devel: compile MPP/RDAC kernel module
Hi Centos Users
I am running Centos 4.6 wit latest updates. For I/O multipathing I
need to use kernel 2.6.9-55 (IBM support matrix). Trying to compile

I fail to install kernel-devel for this exact kernel (with up2date).
Up2date always installs the newest.

firewall best practice on dom-0
I took over a custom firewall script from my older Suse machines to my
Dom-Us and it works just fine. Doing the same for Dom-0 immediately killed
all traffic for the VMs. As there was no need before I had been dropping
everything on the FORWARD chain. After ACCEPTing all for FORWARD my VMs
are happy again.
What's best practice on Dom-0, what do you do? Can I restrict the
forwarding, in

MoinMoin TableOfContents
Hi,
I constantly find myself fighting the wiki syntax. Today the problem is
that I want a TableOfContents that does NOT include the page title.
To be honest, I do not understand why the page title (level 1) is included
in the TOC, and why it does not appear in the head-title (<head><title>).
I found with Google that there is a syntax like:
[[TableOfContents(4,2)]]

Sometimes content gets out of page due it is larger than screen
visible area. To fix that in modern-CentOS-1.10.3 we introduce
