Problem with the step() function
Dear all, I'm having some problems with using the step() function inside another function. I think it is an environment problem but I do not know how to overcome it. Any suggestions are appreciated. I've prepared a simple example to illustrate my problem: > library(MASS) > data(Boston) > my.fun <- function(dataset) { + l <- lm(medv ~ .,data=dataset) + final.l <-

error using pvcm() on unbalanced panel data
Dear all I am trying to fit Variable Coefficients Models on Unbalanced Panel Data. I managed to fit such models on balanced panel data (the example from the "plm" vignette), but I failed to do so on my real, unbalanced panel data. I can reproduce the error on a modified example from the vignette: > require(plm) > data("Hedonic") > Hed <- pvcm(mv ~ crim + zn + indus

[PATCH 2/2] core/graphics: fix lss16 parsing
getnybble() needs to return four bits at a time from every byte. During rle decode, rows are rounded to an integer number of bytes. The rle length needs to be able to hold values > 255. Runnung samba4 as classic domain controller, win7 thinks it is AD
Hello. For may years we're running a classic (NT-style) domain with many machines (mostly windows7 these days). Initially it was set up using samba3, and now we upgraded samba to samba4 (4.1.11), without introducing AD functionality (it is not needed). I especially asked in several places whenever samba4 supports NT-style domains, and got several positive answers. Now, we're trying to

configure script: locking error
When I try to run the configure script I get the following error: ERROR: No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe I searched the samba archives and found another instance of the same error, but I don't get the same errors in my config.log file, so I think it is a somewhat different problem. Instead, I get stuff like: configure:8622: checking for fcntl locking

Method dispatch S3/S4 through optimize()
I have been running into difficulties with dispatching on an S4 class defined in the SparseM package, when the method calls are inside a function passed as the f= argument to optimize() in functions in the spdep package. The S4 methods are typically defined as: setMethod("det","matrix.csr", function(x, ...) det(chol(x))^2) that is within setMethod() rather than by name before

How do you run smbpasswd?
First of all, I am running Samba 2.0.5a on Solaris 7 (or trying to, at least). I put appropriate entries in /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf to get Samba running. I can't seem to use smbpasswd as a normal user to set my encrypted password in the smbpasswd file (or as root with "-r"). First of all, the permissions on /usr/local/samba/bin did not allow anyobody to browse the
