RE: using samba over AT@T broadband (Barry deFreese)
AT&T Broadband blocks ports 137,138, and 139. They want to protect those Windows users that install File and Print Sharing from viruses and attacks. nmbd question
Hi everyone, I know that there are issues with NetBIOS across subnets, but I was wondering: Q: If I run nmbd on a multi-interface Linux router, and allow it to listen on all interfaces, and pointing all clients to their respective router interface, can it effectively serve WINS to all subnets such that everyone can browse everyone? Christopher and the list: Gee... I wish it would! My probelm currently is the fact that if I add this line to /etc/exports: /mnt/MountedSambaShare somebox(nohide) I get: somebox:/mnt/MountesSambaShare: Invalid argument This happens whether /etc/exports says "somebox(nohide)" or "somebox(ro)" or "somebox()". Thanks for help with hosts file
All (Tom especially), Thanks for correcting my hosts file faux pas. I think I now (kinda) know how this file is used. Can I use this to control what subnets can get NAT''ed out and back through the net zone? For instance, with nothing in it every network inside can get out without a problem. If I do specify networks in it, is it true that only those specified can get out and back?

Samba-3.0 and the --with-msdfs compile flag
Hi all, First, I'm no longer on the list, so please CC me if you reply to the group. I've hunted around, but I cannot find anything about this. The --with-msdfs compile flag is not present in ./configure --help. Is dfs built now by default? OR - is it no longer supported? question about dataframe ("sensory") in PLS package
Dear all, I am trying to my dataframe for the PLS analysis using the PLS package. However I have some trouble generating the correct dataframe. The main problem is how to use one name to represent several columns in the dataframe. The example dataframe in PLS package is called "sensory". I cannot directly read the data file since it's a binary file. If I use

security = domain and NetBIOS aliases
Hi everyone, I rely on about 8 NetBIOS aliases on my samba filer. I have been using security = server, but I have been running to some strange issues where if a user just logs off and then back on, they are denied access to shares. If they reboot, they can then get back in ok. I've set debugging up, and it appears that samba does not recognize the user after a logoff/logon, and uses nobody as

What's the best method - probably simple
Hi all, I'm testing out a pdf printer script I'm writing on a live samba system. I modify the script, but my changes do not seem to show up when I print. It seems like samba is caching the script. I do not want to restart samba (I'm guessing that will disconnect people), but I want to force samba to re-read the new script. I'm guessing I can HUP whatever smb process is open for

teaching R
Hello all, I am going to be running a small statistics workshop using R sometime in November. I am restricted to R because of the specific libraries I will be using - a good thing in my book - however the attendees are unfamiliar with R. I plan on giving as little R information as possible - just what is absolute necessary to run the statistics (the workshop is short, no time to spend hours

Special config needed to add other internal private class C nets?
Hi everyone, I have shorewall up and running fine, and have for well over a year now. Internally, we have a LAB and they need multiple separate private class C networks to do testing, etc. I built a router, so all of the private LANs can communicate - This seems to work fine. I''m confused about what do I need to modify on my FW to get everyone to communicate out, masq''ed to the

Am I reading this dump correctly?
All, This debug level 5 snippet looks like it tries several authentication protocols before settling on the NT LM 0.12 version. Am I correct in my thinking? Since we run with no less than Win2K in our shop, is there a way to specify the auth to use? The reason I ask, is some of my users are having problems - not all of the time - but enough to get them annoyed. They will get locked out of a
