How to create static routes on startup with CentOS4?
Hi,
I'm working with the iproute2/iptables toolset on my CentOS4 server to
create custom routing rules. However, I'm a bit at a loss how to create
these permanently so that they are automatically reloaded upon reboot of the
server.
I know that iptables has a config file in /etc/sysconfig/iptables that is
loaded by /etc/init.d/iptables startup script.
Is there anything that works

Kernel 2.4 and Centos4
Hi,
Has anyone used a 2.4 series kernel on RHEL4/Centos4?
There's a patch (openmosix) which I would really like to make use of
[seeing as I just got 10 diskless computers...] which is not ready
(yet) for the 2.6 kernel series...
Can I just drop in a 2.4.26 series kernel and continue to have a working
system? Or is RHEL now totally dependent on 2.6 kernel features?
Cheers,
MaZe.

Issues with stat() call on CentOS5 vs CentOS4
Dear CentOS,
I have recently upgraded several servers from CentOS4 to CentOS5 and I am
noticing a strange change to the stat() call. I have written a very
small program to test and show the behavior. I am calling stat()
against a file which is exported from my NAS and mounted with 32k
read/write sizes.
[dougalb at centos4 tmp]$ cat my_stat.c
#include <unistd.h>
#include <stdio.h>

alternatives package?
Hi,
In my struggle today to get python2.4 installed on my CentOS4 system, I saw
that it installed a packaged called alternatives which is supposed to handle
symbolic links to default commands in a nice clean, structured way.
However, I am having trouble understanding how this thing works.
I have read the man page half a dozen times already, and yet the alternative
link for python which was

CentOS4 and Apache-DBI
Has anybody gotten Apache-DBI to work under CentOS4?
My installed rpms are:
httpd-2.0.52-12.1.ent.centos4 (came with CentOS4)
mod_perl-1.99_16-4.centos4 (came with CentOS4)
perl-Apache-DBI-0.94-1.2.el4.rf (from Dag's site)
--this includes Apache::DBI and Apache::AuthDBI
In my '/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf' file, I added:

firefox i386 1.5.0.5-0.el4.1.centos4
Hi all
I am using CentOS 4.3 and my default language is Japanese. I am using
firefox with Japanese language. I installed firefox i386
1.5.0.5-0.el4.1.centos4 update 15 M on my computer via yum yesterday.
CentOS 4.3 has been acting strange! Japanese language on firefix has
gone and English seems to be default language on firefox. I simply
removed firefox 1.5.0.5-0.el4.1.centos4 and

There isn't package for httpd-2.0.52-41.ent.6.centos4 [centos announce list from 12.11.2009]
Hi.
There isn't a package httpd-2.0.52-41.ent.6.centos4 for centos4 in
UPDATES repo. There is only a httpd-2.0.52-41.ent.6.centos4.src.rpm in
SRC [http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/updates/SRPMS/?C=M;O=D]
This is probably a bug. Package httpd doesn't build ?

File system cache corruption with CentOS4?
Just wondering if anyone else has come across an issue where files
cached in memory appear to become 'corrupted' - for example, on one
workstation, I've just had the issue:
# yum
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/yum", line 4, in ?
import yum
File "__init__.py", line 36, in ?
File "config.py", line 34, in ?

Enabling POP3 on CentOS4 / dovecot
I'm bringing up a new CentOS 4 machine on my home network. It's
intended to replace a crufty machine that has been acting as my mail
gateway. The existing machine does spam and virus filtering, and then
I let my kids get their mail off it with POP3 from another machine on
the home office LAN (so they're not competing with me for the keyboard
when I'm working).
Dovecot starts up

Migrating from RHEL to Centos
Hi,
I m currently running my production servers on RHEL 4.6 & would like to
migrate to Centos4.6 as it has more benefits & advantages. I looked at the
Centos release notes available at
http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4.6/os/i386/RELEASE-NOTES-en.html and
understood that the basic difference between RHEL & Centos
are look/feel related & binaries, functionalities are almost same. But

CentOS4 Loop at shutdown
Has anyone else encountered a loop and failure to shutdown on CentOS4?
This has occurred twice in the past month, but unfortunately I failed
to write down the looping messages. The only relevant problems I found
via Google reference raid controllers, and I have POI (plain ol' IDE).
Doh! Obviously I wuill need to record the errors.
My environment is run-level 5 with GDM, but I use IceWm

can't find python24 rpms for centos4 64bit anymore!
Hi
I'm using python24 under centos4 for a webware application.
I downloaded it from atrpms repository some time ago.
I'm installing a new VPS with centos4 64bit, and can't find any python24
package!
python.org pyvault doesn't support 64 bit architectures, and atrpms
don't make python24 packages anymore.
I don't have 64 bit architecture at home so I can't recompile

AIC7901 RAID320 with CENTOS4 not recognized
An INTEL Server motherboard model SE7501BR2 with an onboard Adaptec
AIC7901 controller (with HostRAID) is not being recognized by CENTOS
4.
The AIC79xx driver loads correctly, however it does not "see" the fact
that I used the HostRAID onboard software to create a RAID 1 set.
I went to the INTEL site and only found a driver for RHEL 3.0 and I
was unable to find a driver on the adaptec

Thanks in advance

Samba rpm and /var/*/samba directory for .tdb files
Hi,
I use CentOS4 (RHEL4) and it seems that I was using /var/lib/samba
for storing the .tdb files. Then I compilled the fedora .src.rpm from
samba.org
and it points now to /var/cache/samba
I will build tonight the .rpm from the .tar.gz and see which directory samba
choose for the .tdb files in CentOS4.
Anyone can confirm this list of distro/.tdb directory:
Fedora: /var/cache/samba
CentOS4:

USB key problems on enterprise systems
Just came up with some interesting (read: frustrating) problems on
RHEL3 and RHEL4 today at work, and I've confirmed one of the problems
on my up-to-date CentOS4 system at home. I was forced into releasing
some RHEL3 systems to replace our aging RH9 systems without time for
adequate testing, and that leads to problems like these.
On our legacy RH9 systems, mounting a USB key is no problem,

CentOS4 + Subversion?
Hey all - does RHES4/CentOS4 beta contain a recent integration of
Subversion? I've been holding off trying to retro-fit CentOS 3.x on our
CVS server, hoping that the official channels aready had it in store for
the future. Not that you *can't* retrofit, I was just uncomfortable
upgrading so many stock packages.
Anyone have it installed, can take a look for me?
thx,
