glustefs as vmware datastore in production
Nice to read this. Any particular reason to *not* run the OS image in
glusterfs cluster?
Thanks

glustefs as vmware datastore in production
Sometimes os disk hang occured and re-mounted with ro in vm guest(centos6)
when storage was busy.
After install vmware plugin, increased block response timeout to 30 sec.
But os workload reponse time was not good.
I guess my system composed with 5400 rpm disks with raid6.
Overall storage performance is not good for multiple os images.
best regards.

trying to kickstart a vm guest from my datastore
I have a new ESXi server (5.x), and trying to load some VM guests on there.
I have the guests configured, but when I try and boot from ISO image,
the graphics are so bad it is futile. No worries I normally use
kickstart anyways.
Because the ESXi (on the same network as my physical servers) cannot
talk to the PXE server. But works fine on the network (I can ssh/scp in
and out of the ESXi

Gluster+NFS as VM datastore for ESXi - issues
Hi all,
I've been trying out Gluster Platform, so some info will be from the management interface. If additional data from logs is required, please let me know which logfiles.
When using a Gluster NFS volume as a ESXi datastore, creation of a disk file (vmdk) takes a considerable amount of time (with unfsd using 10-50% cpu) and then crashes unfsd. A reboot of the system seems necessary to

Future of GlusteFS
Is version 11 set to be the last GlusterFS major release ? If so, am I
right in assuming all maintenance updates are set to stop after December
2024 ?

vmware datastore mounted by NFS
I recently moved my vmware datastore from a local disk partition to an
NFS share (in preparation for some other system changes that are still
in progress).
In the init sequence, vmware loads before the NFS share gets mounted, so
it checks the datastore, and finds it empty. Makes it hard to start a
VM. :(
As a temporary fix, I added the line
service vmware restart
to rc.local, but I consider

gluster and nfs-ganesha
HI,
I'm using CentOS 7.4 with Gluster 3.10.7 and Ganesha NFS 2.4.5.
I'm trying to create a very simple 2 nodes cluster to be used with
NFS-ganesha. I've created the bricks and the volume. Here's the output:
# gluster volume info
Volume Name: cluster-demo
Type: Replicate
Volume ID: 9c835a8e-c0ec-494c-a73b-cca9d77871c5
Status: Started
Snapshot Count: 0
Number of Bricks: 1 x 2 = 2

gluster and nfs-ganesha
Hi Jiffin,
I looked at the document, and there are 2 things:
1. In Gluster 3.8 it seems you don't need to do that at all, it creates
this automatically, so why not in 3.10?
2. The step by step guide, in the last item, doesn't say where exactly do I
need to create the nfs-ganesha directory. The copy/paste seems irrelevant
as enabling nfs-ganesha creates automatically the ganesha.conf and

About starting nfs-ganesha
When using nfs-ganesha with GlusterFS, is it necessary to enable it with the following command?
# gluster nfs-ganesha enable
It is said that it is necessary to enable nfs-ganesha option when setting ganesha.enable on for volume.
It is said that setting of ganesha-ha.conf is necessary, but is it necessary to set up HA to use nfs-ganesha?
I would be pleased if you could tell me about HA setting

Perhaps there's a way to get NFSv4 work with GlusterFS without NFS

NFS Ganesha
Hello!
I am attempting to setup a Gluster install using Ganesha for NFS using the guide found here http://blog.gluster.org/2015/10/linux-scale-out-nfsv4-using-nfs-ganesha-and-glusterfs-one-step-at-a-time/
The Gluster portion is working fine, however when I try to setup Ganesha I have a problem. The guide says to run 'gluster nfs-ganesha enable' however when I do, I get the following

Sounds good and no problem at all. Will look out for this update in the

Was looking for a sense of direction with the projects and now you've
given that. Ty. Appreciated!

gluster and nfs-ganesha
Thanks Jiffin,
Btw, the nfs-ganesha part in the release notes is having a wrong header, so
it's not highlighted.
One thing that it is still mystery to me: gluster 3.8.x does all what the
release notes of 3.9 says - automatically. Any chance that someone could
port it to 3.9?
Thanks for the links
