Gluster Summit BOF - Rebalance
Hi,
We had a BOF on Rebalance at the Gluster Summit to get feedback from
Gluster users.
- Performance has improved over the last few releases and it works well for
large files.
- However, it is still not fast enough on volumes which contain a lot of
directories and small files. The bottleneck appears to be the
single-threaded filesystem crawl.
- Scripts using the fix-layout and file migration

Gluster Summit BOF - Testing
Hi all,
We had a BoF about Upstream Testing and increasing coverage.
Discussion included:
- More docs on using the gluster-specific libraries.
- Templates, examples, and testcase scripts with common functionality as a jumping off point to create a new test script.
- Reduce the number of systems required by existing libraries (but scale as needed). e.g., two instead of eight.

[Fwd: [Xen-devel] Xen Project Developer Summit Schedule Available]
I thought people on this list might be interested in the Xen Developer
Summit in Edinburgh in October (alongside LinuxCon EU and a bunch of
other confs).
Lars tells me that they are going to be advertising more widely next
week so if you are interested now would be a good time to sign up.
Ian.

BoF - Gluster for VM store use case
During Gluster Summit, we discussed gluster volumes as storage for VM
images - feedback on the usecase and upcoming features that may benefit
this usecase.
Some of the points discussed
* Need to ensure there are no issues when expanding a gluster volume when
sharding is turned on.
* Throttling feature for self-heal, rebalance process could be useful for
this usecase
* Erasure coded volumes with

Documentation BoF
As part of Gluster Summit, we did discuss about Documentation and how to
improve it further. In the topic, one of the major request was to make sure
we version the document, so all things which were valid for a release will
still be valid in that doc, even after it got changed in later versions.
- Please version the document, and tag them properly after every release.
- Readthedoc already

OLS BoF? Mainline Virtualization API status?
Folks,
OLS is fast approaching. There is a session on virtualization
at the Kernel Summit, with Keir and Zach invited, which will
probably last an hour(?). There is also a Xen BoF currently
scheduled (Thursday, 7/20, 7:00PM) which will cover Xen specific
issues. And there are approximately 3 or 4 paper presentations
on related subjects. None of the above are going to allow for
adequate time to
