interior and exterior colors of a map
Hi useR's, I have an image plot I want to overlay a map of the United States on, via map('usa'). The image is basically a large rectangular of various colors. When I overlay the United States map, the full rectangle of the image plot is visible, but I only want to display the image WITHIN the United States boundary. Does anyone know a way to do this? Thanks in advance, dxc13 --

[GC / Statepoints] Collector supports only base pointers as stack roots
Hi, My collector supports only base pointers as stack roots. This wasn't a problem until I tried to run some optimizations before RS4GC, which introduced (interior) derived pointers. The statepoint documentation mentions that these collectors exist, but doesn't mention whether and how this is currently supported. What could I do to make it work? -Manuel

shading in line plots
Hello, I cannot figure out how to shade between two lines in a plot. For example, if I am trying to plot a confidence envelope and I would like to shade the interior of the envelope grey. Is this possible in R? Thanks in advance. Heather Lynch

Getting rid of borders on semi-transparent plotting symbols
R version 2.7.0 RC (2008-04-20 r45403) When using semi-transparent filled plotting symbols, the border of the symbol has a different (darker) colour than the interior: plot(0, 0, pch=19, col="#FF000022") (Saving this as a PDF and looking at it magnified may make it easier to see.) This is pretty annoying, since when plotting partially overlapping points, the border colour dominates,

interior point methods, automatic differentiation in R
Dear all, I'm wondering if there are some ongoing projects for interior point methods in R (e.g. linking ipopt from Coin written in C++ to R) and for automatic differentiation in R (e.g. linking openAD available in C++ and Fortran) ? Many thanks, David [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Using grep to determine value of last letter...
I am currently being defeated by grep. I am attempting to determine the value of the last letter of a character string. An example of my data set is shown below. Regarding the codes, I would like to identify the value of the last character and then take the appropriate action, e.g. If the value is L then label UL rating XXX It the value is F then label UL rating YYY ... I assume it will be

ggplot2 y elipse.

ATA with pulse dialing support over FXS
Hi. Does anyone know about a simple one-fxs ATA with pulse dialing support that can work with Asterisk? A SIP one would be ok. I've been told that the Digium S101i IAXy does support pulse dialing; although it's a iax2-only ata it could be enough. I need a bunch of them to convert some old fashioned rotary phones into VoIP ones (I'd like to disassemble the ATAs to remove the boards

shading an area of a graphic
Colleagues OS 10.5 R: 2.10.1 I have a simple x-y plot for which I would like to shade the lower (or upper) part of the interior region (i.e., the area bounded by the axes). If the delineation between top and bottom were linear, it would be use to use the polygon function. However, the delineation is a curve (which I can describe by an equation). In theory, I could divide the x-axis into a

Hello, I use the map package in conjunction with the mapdata package, and I want to draw the map of China without interior regions. After reading the doc and searched in this mailing list I've tried map("china",interior=FALSE) and map("china",fill=TRUE) but I allways see the interior regions... If someone can help me... Thanks Etienne

Fax, T38 and NAT
Gentlemen, I have 3 faxes attached to an Asterisk. Fax - SPA2102 - Asterisk. 0851711201 and 0851711290 is on our WAN, no NAT. 0197673581 is outside our WAN and needs to be NAT'ed. Sending a fax from 0851711201 to 0851711290, no problem, switches to T38 and fax goes through. Sending a from 0197673581 to 0851711201, no problem as long as i dont enable T38 on 0197673581. But, if i enable T38

3-dimensional table
Hi, Last week my class conducted an experiment by putting out clay caterpillars to look at the effects of urbanization, color, and location on caterpillar predation. There were two sites (urban, rural), three colors (green, yellow, red) and two locations at each site (edge, interior). The entire data set is below. I've checked out the MASS book, Dalgaard's book, and the R-help archives

another question on shapefiles and geom_point in ggplot2
Manuel: I changed your variable names from x to 'long' and y to 'lat' on the riqueza_out.csv file. The code below should do what you want. Also, since the legend title is kind of long, I broke it down into three lines so you can see more plot area. I am cc'ing the other groups so more people use it if needed. library(rgdal) library(ggplot2) library(sp) library(maptools)
