Help - linear regression
Hi, I am trying a linear regression model where the dependent variable is the size of the heart corrected for the patient's height and weight. This is labelled as LAVI. The independent variables are race (european or non-eurpoean), age, sex (male or female) of the patient and whether they have diabetes and high blood pressure. sample size 2000 patients selected from a community. when I

Shirewall and ppp interface
I well, my ISP just worked with me to switch in my new gateway. After the switch and bringing up the ppp interface, the new gateway was access the Internet just fine, but none of systems behind it were. Scratched my head, and after some fumbling, I discovered that it seems like I have to restart shorewall after ppp interface is brought up. So. How do I ensure that shorewall is restarted

treatment effect at specific time point within mixed effects model
All, The code below is for a pseudo dataset of repeated measures on patients where there is also a treatment factor called "drug". Time is treated as categorical. What code is necessary to test for a treatment effect at a single time point, e.g., time = 3? Does the answer matter if the design is a crossover design, i.e, each patient received drug and placebo? Finally, what would

Confidence-Intervals.... help...
Hi... I have to use R to find out the 90% confidence-interval for the sensitivity and specificity of the following diagnostic test: A particular diagnostic test for multiple sclerosis was conducted on 20 MS patients and 20 healthy subjects, 6 MS patients were classified as healthy and 8 healthy subjects were classified as suffering from the MS. Furthermore, I need to find the number of MS

Repeated Measures design using lme
Hi, I have what I believe is a repeated-measures dataset that I'm trying to analyze using lme(). This is *not* homework, but an exercise in my trying to self-teach myself repeated-measure ANOVA for other *real* datasets that I have and that are extremely similar to the following design. I'm fairly sure the dataset described below would work with lme() -- but it'd be great if anybody

Just another pattern matching / indexing question
Hi all, thank you for your patience. I am dealing with a large dataset detailing patients and medications Medications are hard to code, as they are (usually) meaningless unless matched with doses. I have a dataframe with vectors (Drug1, Drug2..... Drug 16) and individual patients are represented by rows. The vectors are actually factors, with 100s of possible levels (all the drugs the patient

treatment effect at specific time point within mixedeffects model
Hi David: In looking at your original post it is a bit difficult to ascertain exactly what your null hypothesis was. That is, you want to assess whether there is a treatment effect at time 3, but compared to what. I think your second post clears this up. You should refer to pages 224- 225 of Pinhiero and Bates for your answer. This shows how to specify contrasts. > -----Original Message-----

reshaping column items into rows per unique ID
Hi Allaisone, If you want a data frame as the output you will have to put up with a few NA values unless each Customer has the same number of diet types: a1df<-read.table(text="CustomerID DietType 1 a 1 c 1 b 2 f 2 a 3 j 4

Multidimensional correlation matrix question
Hello, I previously sent this message which was stripped off due to HTML mail. Sorry! Thanks. Hello All, I am new to the list. I have been learning to use R recently and its been great to see so much help available. However I must admit, I have stumbled upon a problem with correlation matrices and was hoping if someone could help. I have an excel workbook with a sheet per drug. Each sheet

logistic regression - glm() - example in Dalgaard's book ISwR
Dear R-list members, I would like to pose a question about the use and results of the glm() function for logistic regression calculations. The question is based on an example provided on p. 229 in P. Dalgaard, Introductory Statistics with R, 2nd. edition, Springer, 2008. By means of this example, I was trying to practice the different ways of entering data in glm(). In his book, Dalgaard

Identifying the particular X or Y in a sorted list
Dear All, I have a data sets as shown below A (Patient ID ), B and C are the Concentration of drug in blood on day 1 and day 4, D is the difference in conc. To do this in R I have written a code as follows, identified the number of patients who have more concentration on day 4 . Here I want to identify specifically the patient ID (is he patient 1 or 2 or 5 and 7), whose concentration is more. How

Why can''t I change value of the primary key?
One should be able to change the value of a primary key, right? But it''s not working for me. If I do this: @drug = Drug.find(tid1) @drug.id = tid2 @drug.category = ''Test2'' if @drug.save savedok = ''Saved successfully'' else savedok = ''Not saved'' end I get ''Saved successfully''

[Possible spam] New project - any volunteers?
Greetings! (and apologies upfront for any duplication as a result of my cross-posting) It''s been five weeks now since I began working with RoR. My experience has been incredibly positive. So much so that I''m emboldened to undertake a project I''d previously concluded I no longer had the technical chops to even _start_. I''ve included a brief description of

(no subject)
Good morning, I wrote a little code in R which has to show two graphs but I can get only one. How can I adress the graphs in two files? Second, I'd like, always in the same code, to add a legend to a graph. Better, I'd like to put in such a legend a new item whose color could remind the colour ol the columns it refers to in the plot. I wrote: leg.txt<-c("control

Contingency table in R
Hi, I have a table in R with data I needed and need to create a contingency table out of it. The table I have so far looks like this: Binger r DietType No Yes Dangerous 15 12 Healthy 52 9 None 134 24 Unhealthy 72 23 These are the error messages that I keep getting whenever I try to get a contingency table. I'm not sure why it won't work

[Fwd: Re: Coefficients of Logistic Regression from bootstrap - how to get them?]
Thank you Frank and all for your advices. Here I attach the raw data from the Pawinski's paper. I have obtained permission from the corresponding Author to post it here for everyone. The only condition of use is that the Authors retain ownership of the data, and any publication resulting from these data must be managed by them. The dataset is composed as follows: patient number / MMF dose in
