Dear R-users,
I am running R 2.10.1 under Windows XP Professional. Moreover, I run
Java 5.0 and the RWeka package 0.4-1 and rJava 0.8-4. are successfully
installed.
I get two error messages while loading both packages.

While running scripts, rJava and Snowball would not load. Here is Snowball

There needs to be a reference value for the contrast. Contrasts are differences. I gave you the choice of two references

David,
Again you have my thanks!.
You are correct. What I want is not technically a contrast. What I want is the estimate for "regional" and its SE. I don't mind if I get these on the log scale; I can get the anti-log. Can you suggest how I can get the point estimate and its SE for "regional"? The predict function will give the point estimate, but not (to my knowledge)

Problems with xlsx and rjava
Hi,
I keep getting the below error regarding rJava which is required by package xlsx (I have used it in the past to directly import data from Excel 2010).
I was on R version 2.15.0 when I was getting this error this morning. So I upgraded to 2.15.1 but still the same problem. I tried unstalling and reinstalling xlsx and even rJava directly from the source as indicated here:

Problem installing rJava under FreeBSD
Hi there
I am setting up a FreeBSD server for my research department at university,
and one of my teachers needs specifically R modules like tm, RWeka, rJava
and the like.
I have installed FreeBSD 8.0/i386 and applied the relevant security patches
as well as the native FreeBSD JDK 1.6 with its latest patchset.
I have installed R 2.11 and enabled Java support on it. Now, when trying to

Non linear programming: choose R that minimizes corr(y, x^R)
I am looking for a package that will allow me to choose R (a real number) that minimizes the correlation of y and x^R, i.e.
find R such that corr(y,x^R) is minimized. Any suggestions for packages I might look at would be helpful.
Thanks,
John

using apply to a data frame
??I would like to apply a function, fract, to the columns of a
dataframe. I tried the following
apply(data5NonEventEpochs,2,fract)
but, no surprise it did not work as apply works on matrices not data
frames. How can I apply a fuction to the columns of a data frame? (I
can't covert data5NonEventsEpochs to a matrix as it contains character
data).
Thank you,
John

Neither the statement above, nor any one of twenty variations I have tried work. I would appreciate

glmulti fails because of rJava
Dear R,
The glmulti package no longer loads through the library() command, apparently because of a problem with rJava.
I have today reinstalled R from scratch (updated to v2.14.0) and reinstalled all packages from scratch and updated them all too. The problem is the same as I found on v2.13.2. See session below for the error. I tried
install.packages(rJava) as advised by the error report but it
