pdf device: rasterize portions of the plot to reduce file size
Dear list, My favorite output format is usually pdf. I can include the graphics in pdflatex documents and benefit from the scalable nature of vector graphic formats. However, I recently had to generate high-res 2D levelplot graphics as in the example below, N <- 100 # N <- 1000 # slow to diplay xy <- expand.grid(x=seq(0, 10, length=N), y=seq(0, 10, length=N)) xy <- within(xy,

rasterize SpatialPolygon object using a RasterBrick object
I am trying to rasterize a SpatialPolygon object by a RasterBrick object. The documentation of the raster::rasterize function explicitly says this is allowed. Here's what I am doing # load the raster package library("raster") # create a raster brick object using the example from the brick function documentation b <- brick(system.file("external/rlogo.grd",

Rasterize function with maximum in R
Hi all, I have some concerns regarding the rasterize option in R and I would like to know if the fun=max in rasterize in R provides similar results to the one achieved by using "Polygon to Raster using maximum-combined-area" in ArcGIS? I'm trying to rasterize a habitat layer to a raster of 10m spatial resolution using the function 'max' (e.g. r <- rasterize(ht, r,

pictex driver and bargraph shading
I'm trying to use the pictex driver for bargraphs, and the shading isn't showing up. Is there any way to get some sort of shading in the plots? A hatch or stipple would be fine, too; just some way to differentiate the bars. The postscript driver won't do, since I'm trying to embed this in a LaTeX document which I'll use pdflatex on and \includegraphics for pdftex doesn't

why is text being rasterized with text()
Here's a question: I noticed that when I tried to create this simple graph of rectangles and text, R appears to generate text that is rasterized (this is seen both on the monitor and when the output is directed to a pdf file). Any thoughts? value.seq <- c("<4",as.character(seq(from=4,to=10)),">11") frame() par(usr=c(0,10,0,10) ) for (r in 1:9) {

Question about Density Plot
Hi I've attached an example about something I want to do in R. This example was done in a Fortran application called ASGL. Here's an example in matplotlib http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/examples/pylab_examples/hexbin_demo.html Basically, it's like a scatter plot, but have several additional things. One thing are the grids inside the graph, and the other is a density bar used

Plotting library
Hi, I''m fairly new to Rails and am moving from PHP. I am looking for a way to generate generate image plots on a Webpage. I have looked at SVG::Graph, but it doesn''t look nearly as flexible or functional as jpGraph, which I use in PHP (http://www.aditus.nu/jpgraph/). I also generate some more complex graphs using matplotlib via Python

Marcas secundarias ejes ggplot2

panel.abline() and trellis.focus() on multipage plots
Hi, I'm recently working on a multipage bwplot() using the lattice package. In this context I was trying to use the panel.abline() function individually on certain panels but not all. After some research I found the trellis.focus() and trellis.unfocus() functions which enabled me to do something like: trellis.focus("panel", 1, 3) do.call("panel.abline", list

SpanDSP and analog Digium channels (TDM400P)
Hi I am trying to use Asterisk as a backend to send and receive faxes over analog channels connected to a Siemens HiPath 3550 switch and a TDM400P card. Receiving faxes, including multipage ones, works really fine, we have no issues at all. But when it comes to send faxes using the app_txfax application, spandsp can't send multipage TIFF files for some reason, it stops sending in the

Sweave and multipage lattice
Dear R-Listeners, as the Sweave faq says: http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~leisch/Sweave/FAQ.html creating several figures from one figure chunk does not work, and for standard graphics, a workaround is given. Now I have a multipage trellis plot with an a-priori unknown number of pages, and I don't see an elegant way of dividing it up into multiple pdf-files. I noted there is a "page"

maptools/spatial analysis question
Hi, I am using maptools to plot air quality data on a map. Each measurement point is mapped to a postal code area. This yields pictures with discrete borders, like so: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27415200/baincome.png The problem is that the size of a postal code area doesn't mean much in this context. Moreover, only a small minority of all the postal code areas has a measurement sation. Are

Ogg embedding, problem with spec and/or bugs in speexenc
(Sending again after subscribing, I guess the moderator is on vacation.) I'm working on support for tagging Speex files for Mutagen[0] and part of the specification at [1] is confusing me. It says the first page should have granulepos 0 and packetno 0. Does this really mean page sequence number 0, since the Ogg format doesn't number packets? If it doesn't mean page sequence number,

python bindings to libtheora
Hi, in the past two days I wrote Python bindings to libtheora: http://github.com/certik/python-theora Currently it can read any ogv file (that seems to work quite well) and also encode to ogv (this mostly works, but there are some subtle issues to be fixed, I suspect I still have some bug in the way I half the dimensions of the Cb and Cr planes, so when you read ogv and write ogv, the resulting

Custom Print Command
I'm trying to setup my public printers to do 4 pages per sheet, and am having nothing but problems making it work. The system is a Redhat 4.2 box running Samba 1.9.18p4, and the printers are postscript capable HP 4000 and 8000 machines. Using Redhat's printtool to set 4 page per sheet output works when printing via lpr, but as soon as I print from a Win95 box through samba, it's

Tiff image handling like MODI
Greetings, I have been searching for some application with functionalities like MODI (Microsoft office Document Imaging) Many I have checked does not cut it or not cross platform. Evince just allows multipage viewing, not extraction of individual pages in to another file. GUI is a necessity. I am aware of tifflib, imagemagick, but but not sure about a decent GUI wrappers for them. The file

Layout, xyplot and saving in file
Dear all, I am trying to use layout with xyplot and save the plot in a file. The saved file contains only the last panel (used jpg, wmf and pdf options in the savePlot function) I am not familiar with the graphic file formats and don't know if they can handle multipage output. If not do I need to loop by ndose in the following script ? Here is my script:

calling Rf_initEmbeddedR twice gives an error
Dear all, I've written a R to python/octave/r translator that (so you can call python from R etc and vice versa) enabling you to e.g. call matplotlib which just runs fine on the first command when I do Rf_initEmbeddedR(2, argv); Rf_endEmbeddedR(0); Rf_initEmbeddedR(2, argv); Rf_endEmbeddedR(0); I get this error Error in .Call("R_isMethodsDispatchOn", onOff,
