New Package on CRAN: wbstats
Hello, I wanted to announce the release of a new package on CRAN wbstats. >From the description "Tools for searching and downloading data and statistics from the World Bank Data API (http://data.worldbank.org/developers/api-overview) and the World Bank Data Catalog API (http://data.worldbank.org/developers/data-catalog-api)" Here is a (hopefully) useful vignette if you would like

Estimados Usuarios-R: Muy buenos días. Tengo un problema con la librería wbstats. Corro el siguiente programa: >wb_cache_7_4_17 <- wbcache(lang="es") >ed_search <- wbsearch("educacion", cache = wb_cache_7_4_17) >ed_search <- ed_search[grepl("secundario", ed_search$indicator)==T,] >country_list <-

Corrected msg about Linux Mint 19.1 install
Apologies for some errors inserted by overly-helpful input filters on Thunderbird. Here's the corrected version. Just in case others hit the same glitch. It's not directly an R issue, but if folk can't get an install to work, they are not going to use R. While I've always had a straightforward experience before, this install gave some troubles. I added the repository deb

row.names in data.frame with row.names NULL
In response to the Aug 20 posting by Vadim, I had the same issue with all kinds of complaints about row.names when it was not given in the read.table command; when it was set to NULL (data were actually shifted to the wrong names). I believe the problem was no comma (or specified delimiter) at the end of the first row with the names in it. Don't know why, but in comparing two programs,

Hola, amigos; Les presento mi necesidad, a ver si ven cómo resolverla.

[PATCH]: scp program improved
Hi, I have made a patch which improves scp utility. It adds two new features: rate limit and resume support. With rate limit it's possible to limit transfer speed. Resume allows to continue file transfer where it was last interrupted. Also the progress meter was improved. Here is my patch, please send comments about it and what I can do better if there is something to fix. ---

Quick sftp status indicator.
I think my first send was eaten by elm.. Yuck I hate this programm.. Anyawys, first the disclaimer: This is barely tests, I submit this to the general population, but I will not submit this for review of rest of the OpenSSH team. Mainly because it is horrible at best. dealing with alarm() in a sane way is not fun. It does not compile clean, but works. IF anyone cares to clean it up..

Version two of progressbar for scp/sftp
Again, this has been lightly tested. I think there still are a few glitchs. 1. stole progressmeter() from scp.c - clean up and simplified a little to remove the 'flag' status. It now understands how to initialize itself and how to terminate itself. Along with a malloced status bar instead of the original fix width bar. 2. removed all initialization code from scp.c for progressmeter()

SFTP Status Bar..
This is the LAST version I plan on doing.. If I hear no feed back good or bad. Then I'll assume I've wasted my time on a feature that people whine about but don't care to try. This is against 3.0.2pX so it should be VERY easy for anyone to test. - Ben diff -ur openssh-3.0.2p1/misc.c openssh/misc.c --- openssh-3.0.2p1/misc.c Tue Jul 3 23:46:58 2001 +++ openssh/misc.c Wed Feb 6

Winamp plugin annoyance
Hello, When the Winamp plugin is playing an Ogg Vorbis file, if you try to scroll the playlist so that the title of the Ogg file scrolls out of view, it jumps back again, which is very annoying. The fix: In function DecodeThread, replace if(lostsync || (decode_pos_ms - lastupdate > 500)) { ... mod.SetInfo(bitrate / 1000, samplerate / 1000, num_channels, 1); by if(lostsync ||

Lingering WinXP SP2 issues
After apparently flawed testing, we rolled out SP2 for XP this week as samba seemed to be able to handle printing acceptably in recent versions. Once we rolled it out, we started getting reports of many users receiving the error :A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this print queue. memory issues with samba 3.0.10
I'm still having problems with that memory issue using 3.0.10 with v.2 of the printing patch + the one line patch from Jerome Borsboom. My production server has completely frozen a couple times in the past couple weeks, and did so again this morning. This time before restarting samba I removed the tdb files in /var/lib/samba/printing/* as Jerry mentioned this might help the queue not

enable-cups in spec file
It appears that --enable-cups made it into the Redhat srpm. Neat. I've been adding that one line to it forever, and did it again this time without checking for its presence, thus causing the compile to fail. Thought I'd let the world know in case someone else did something equally foolish and got confused with config.sub errored out. -- David Schlenk Operating Systems Analyst Bethel

print points from a huge matrix
Hi All, I have a 8000*8000 matrix and I want to print out a file with the row name, column name and the value for those point with values satisfying a condition. I tried using a for loop, however, it took me forever to get the result. Is there a fast way to do this? Thanks! allShortestPath function in e1071 package
Hi All, I am using the allShortestPath function based on Floyd's algorithm in e1071 package. It runs great when I have less than 5000 nodes. But when I tried to work on more than 5000 nodes, I ran into memory problem. The problem I really want to solve has 10000-15000 nodes. Does anybody know how to deal with this problem? Are there any other packages in R that can handle this problem?
