ifelse logic and multiple assignments
I'm a fairly new R user and while I have a solution to my problem I'm wondering if there is a better one. In SAS it's common to use if/then logic along with a "do" statement to make several things happen. While I could do the same thing in R using a "for" loop, and "if" and {}, I've read that loops are less common in R and I wonder if I'm doing

Help with interpolation
Hi, I have a two Colum matrix ( I named it holder) as shown bellow. It seems to be three columns, but the first column contains the row names. I am trying to fill all NAs by linear interpolation the known values in the matrix. I tried using the interpNA function, but I get an error message: > interpNA(holder, method = "linear") Error in approx(idx, x[idx], 1:n, method = method, f

symantec treating R-devel r73003 for Windows as malware
Hallo Martin The result is the same. The R exe file is downloaded with some note about possible danger. When I try to run it, it is inspected and deleted from its location. Symantec message is enclosed. Our IT said it has something to do with installer type, but it is beyond my expertise. MRutter PPA versioning issue, again
Michael, ESS broke again on my laptop after I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.10. The elpa-ess package seems to be provided multiple times, sadly the one with xenial (16.04) in its name wins ... and breaks the setup. I one for cosmic, I had one from bionic (18.04), but because the names 'wrapped' the 'x' wins over 'b' and 'c'. We had talked about that in the past, it

Fixing to bite the dust?
I've been getting LOTS of messages like the below in the daily log, and from all indications, it appears to all be related to the cpu; the machine is just over a year old, and was the old vortex.wa4phy;net server from the downtown co-lo site. Aside from huge log files, and lots of other fluff, numerous problems of other nature have started cropping up. Anyone have any suggestions as to

Completely isolating P2P/BitTorrent traffic
Hi all, I''m tring to isolate P2P traffic, specifically BitTorrent, for my QoS scripts. I can''t seem to completely isolate ALL BitTorrent traffic. I identify & mark packets and then use tc filters to put them into appropriate classes. My firewall rules (below) do the markings. My VoIP boxes'' and ICMP traffic get highest priority (mark 1). Intermittant Samba glitch
Hi there, Let me just start by saying that I am a bit of a Linux newbie, but that Shorewall seems an excellant product. The issue I''m reporting wont stop me from using it, it still does 99% of what I need. Anyway, I have a resonably simple two interface system. My server (HatMannz, P3-900MHz with a RAID-1 array of 80GB IDE drives running Red Hat 9.0) connects to a cable modem via eth1
