clean-up actions after non-local exits
Dear R-devel, Some time ago I started a thread that boiled down to clean-up actions after non-local exits in R, see below. I wonder if there has been any progress on this? R-ext 2.6.1 doesn't say much on the subject. How, for example, do people deal with a situation where their C (C++) function opens a file and then receives a signal or longjump-s on error(), how do they make sure the

Testing if all elements are equal in a vector/matrix
Hi All, There are several replies to the question below, but I think there must exist a better way of doing so. I just want to check whether all the elements of a vector are same. My vector has one million elements and it is highly likely that there are distinct elements in the first few itself. For example: > x = c(1,2,rep(1,100000)) I want the answer as FALSE, which is clear from the

Running R2WinBUGS on Linux using Wine
Hello all (1) My departmental IT guru has installed the latest Wine (0.9.48) on a well maintained Fedora 7 server, so that I can run WinBUGS from R via R2WinBUGS (this seems like the only real option for running BUGS from R on a Linux platform?) (2) WinBUGS seems to run okay, except for the following output errors: === === === fixme:keyboard:RegisterHotKey (0x10024,13,0x00000002,3): stub

source(), parse(), and foreign UTF-8 characters
Hi I'm having trouble sourcing or parsing a UTF-8 file that contains characters that are not representable in the current locale ("foreign characters") on Windows. The source() function stops with an error, the parse() function reencodes all foreign characters using the <U+xxxx> notation. I have added a reproducible example below the message. This seems well within the

manipulate a matrix2
Building upon Jim's answer below (Thanks Jim, that helped a lot), I need to pickup where this thread left off. I'm using Vegan to calculate the Jaccard's Index and the Row.Names and column names are represented in my matrix as seen here. Need help putting histograms on the diagonal of a splom plot
Hello, I am in need of help in putting histograms on the diagonal of a plot produced with splom(). The plot matrix I am trying to produce is to have standard scatterplots in the upper-left triangle, contour plots in the lower-right triangle, and histograms on the diagonal. I have a function that does the first two, but the histograms on the diagonal has been beyond my ability. Here is my

bigglm() results different from glm()
Hi Sir, Thanks for making package available to us. I am facing few problems if you can give some hints: Problem-1: The model summary and residual deviance matched (in the mail below) but I didn't understand why AIC is still different. > AIC(m1) [1] 532965 > AIC(m1big_longer) [1] 101442.9 Problem-2: chunksize argument is there in bigglm but not in biglm, consequently,

Predicted values for zero-inflated Poisson
Hi all- I fit a zero-inflated Poisson model to model bycatch rates using an offset term for effort. I need to apply the fitted model to a datasets of varying levels of effort to predict the associated levels of bycatch. I am seeking assistance as to the correct way to code this. Thanks in advance! Survey of "moving window" statistical functions - still looking f or fast mad function
Hi, First, let me thank Jaroslaw for making this survey. I find it quite illuminating. Now the questions: * the #1 solution below (based on cumsum) is numerically unstable. Specifically if you do the runmean on a positive vector you can easily get negative numbers due to rounding errors. Does anyone see a modification which is free of this deficiency? * is it possible to optimize the

Downloading a csv from Dropbox using the shareable link
Hello Kindred R Spirits... I'm trying to get a file (csv) from Dropbox using their shareable link concept. They issue a short URL that goes to a web page where you see a button that says "Download File". They don't really give you the URL of the file itself, just this page. Is there a way to coax R into getting such a file? I don't even really want the file per

Error in formatDL(nm, txt, indent = max(nchar(nm, "w")) + 3)
This error can arise when getOption("width") is too small. 80 seems to be the limit for me with R-3.3.2 on Windows. New code in R-devel: Rao score test for glm.
I have just committed some code to the r-devel branch to implement the Rao efficient score test. This is asymptotically equivalent to the LRT, but there is some indication that it might have better properties in smaller samples since it is based more directly on the distribution of the sufficient sums under the null hypothesis (e.g., if you have a divergent fit to the model under the alternative,

null in rao.test in R
Hello I am testing for the homogeneity of clusters of (yearly) seasonal data using the rao.test from the circular package. I can't find anywhere (including the Cran pages) which specifically mentions the null hypothesis for this test. Playing around with it, for example using say the toy code beneath it would seem that the null is that the data sets tested are not homogenous, which is fine
