[External] Re: Error in setwd(dir) when initializing R
Dear Ana When you installed R it gave you an option to put a shortcut on the desktop. If you did that then you can start the R GUI by clicking on it. You may need to customise it for your preferences. Specifically it starts R with an option cd-user-docs which I delete and I then alter the starting option to start in the directory I want. You may have different preferences of course. Try

R_LIBS_USER not in libPaths
I have a computer where R_LIBS_USER is not found in libPaths. This is for Windows (x64). I ran R from the command line, RGui and RStudio and I get the same results. I also ran R --vanilla and I still get the discrepancy. The only thing I found interesting was that I also ran SET from the command line and the "R related variables" (e.g., R_HOME; R_LIBS_USER) are not there. Therefore

R does not run under latest RStudio
The RStudio list generally does not respond to free version users. I was hoping someone one this (R) list would be kind enough to help me. Hard memory limit of 16GB under Windows?
Hi, I am not not sure whether this topic belongs to this mail list, but I feel the subscribers here should be the right audience. I noticed that the memory limit reported under Windows is 16 GB. I am wondering how to increase it. I didn't found anything in Rprofile.site nor .Rprofile. Is this limit hard coded at compilation? Best, Samuel [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

vanilla session in R Gui or RStudio
As Jeff says, it might be that you have a ~/.Rprofile file with instructions to load packages when R starts. It could also be that you have a .RData file, which is saved if you answer yes to: > Save workspace image? [y/n/c]: y when you quit R. If this file exists, then R loads it and all the objects you had when you saved it. If there are objects associated with packages, then that will

Issues starting RStudio Server and release file expiration under Debian (Jessie)
Hi! I am a new user of Debian and am having an issue loading RStudio Server, which may or may not be related to a previous 'Release file expiration error' when trying to perform apt-get update prior to installing r-base into my remote Debian system. E: Release file for http://mirror.optus.net/debian/dists/jessie-updates/InRelease is expired (invalid since 13d 17h 49min 2s). Updates for

Hard memory limit of 16GB under Windows?
Hi Tomas, Many thanks for your answer. Here is a copy of a fresh session under RStudio, and after a copy under Rgui. Strangely enough the result of memory.limit() is not the same. Without your question I would not have looked to RGui, being used to work with RStudio. The value under RGui sounds to correspond to the total RAM of the computer. It makes me noticing that the value is in MB.

Can you be more specific about what conditions cause R to automatically load a package when a .RData file is loaded? My experience has actually been the opposite. Facing problem in installing the package named "methyAnalysis"
Dear Sir, I have been using R for a long time. But recently I have faced a problem when installing the Bioconductor package named "methyAnalysis". Firstly it was require to update my older R (R version 3.4.3 (2017-11-30)) in to newer version. That time I have also updated the RStudio software. After that when I have tried to install the package named "methyAnalysis". It

Have you looked into your .Rprofile file? Loading packages is not something R normally does without your telling it to do so, but many people forget that they have done so. Strange behaviour of setwd/getwd
I've found the following strange behaviour R (RStudio) which has been confirmed by another user in RGui. Inside a script I want to set two variables: default.wd = getwd() tmp.wd = setwd(choose.dir()) After choosing tmp.wd the value of default.wd is shown in Workspace, but getwd() is giving back the correct string of tmp.wd. Is there a workaround for the problem? I'm working on

<p>R encountered a fatal error. </p> The session was terminated. + *** caught illegal operation ***
I've seen similar issues reported on the RStudio community site: https://community.rstudio.com/. You might want to check in there, as I think this may well be an RStudio issue rather than a problem with R itself. Dear Zack At a guess you are on Windows and instead of installing from the zip file you are trying to install from source. If you do not grasp the difference try posting again showing us exactly what command you used and confirm your operating system Please also post in plain text not HTML as your message may get scrambled in transit. vanilla session in R Gui or RStudio
[env: Windows, R 3.6.6] When I start R from the R Gui icon or from RStudio, I get a large number of packages loaded via a namespace. Not entirely clear where these come from. As a result, I often run into problems updating packages because something is already loaded. How can start a new gui session with minimal packages loaded? > sessionInfo() R version 3.6.3 (2020-02-29) Platform:
