mem.tally.* in R
I'd like to use the resources() function described on p. 151-152 of S Programming by Venables and Ripley (2000), but I don't have access to S and don't know whether R's memory functions (e.g., gc()) can be used instead of mem.tally.reset() and mem.tally.report(). In order to implement the resources() function in R, should I look for the C source for these S functions and wrap them

create groups from tallies
I'm trying to figure out a way of grouping data from simple tally data. For example, I would like to turn the following table into the table at the bottom. I would normally do this in sql statements, but I won't have control over the data, so that's not an option... Thanks, Jeff. dbh, tally 5 1 12 2 6 1 10 1 6 1 12 1 10 2 9 1 3 1 5 1 8 1 3 1 6 1 5 1 10 1 5 1 4 1 22 1 20 1 15 1 14 1

squirrelmail and pam tally and invalid imap logon attempts
Greetings, In trying to use pam tally to secure pam-aware services from brute force attempts, it worked well for all but one aspect. It seems like a client using our Squirrelmail setup creates an invalid imap login attempt every time they refresh a webpage. Has anyone else experienced this or have a clue why SM does this?

Printing in Wine
Hello, I am using Wine to run Tally, an accounting package. Over the network, we are able to print documents using OpenOffice as we have CUPS installed. I read the DOCS related to printing in Wine and they say, I dont need to configure wine if I have CUPS installed. But whenever I issue the print command in tally, nothing happens. I checked out /var/log/messages but didn't find any

removing inaffective SAN partitions from the system .....
Dear All, I have installed CentOS release 5.2 (Final). EMC SAN partition is mounted by using EMC Powerpath for resolving multiple paths. I was able write and read data over to SAN partition without any issues. Subsequently I have unmounted EMC SAN partition from the system and deleted LUN using Navisphere user interface. After rebooting system, I still see SAN mappings in system. Here

Problem with bandwidth
Hi all, Here is my setup: Host1 ---> Router ----> Host2 When i run ttcp -t on Host1 while ttcp -r in Host2, the bandwidth that i can get is about 860 Kbytes/s, which is less than 7Mbps. But i am using NIC 10Mbps for all machines. Why is that so? Currently, i am experimenting with the example efcbq. I am using MGEN (a UDP traffic generator) to send 2 flows of traffic (EF and

SAMBA Problem - Users take ownership
Hi, I have a problem with my Samba/WinBIND implementation. In folders shared by multiple people the last one to access and modify a file takes ownership of the file and changes the permissions so other users cannot make changes to the same file: [root@atlas PLANNING RECORDS]# cd REGIONAL\ 1\ AIRLINE\ DOCS/ [root@atlas REGIONAL 1 AIRLINE DOCS]# ls -al total 1232 drwxrws---+ 8 root

Issue with %in% - not matching identical rows in data frames
Hi folks I have two data frames. I know that the nth (let's say the 7th) row in the first data frame (sequence) is there in the second (today.sequence). When I try to check that by doing 'sequence[7,] %in% today.sequence', I get all FALSE when it should be all TRUE. I'm certain I'm making some trivial mistake. Any solutions? The code to recreate the data frames and see

I have the following sample dataset (CSV input here:http://goo.gl/YR8LP. CSV output here: http://goo.gl/EFCC8) which I want to transform as follows. For each person in a household I want to create two new variables OrigTAZ and DestTAZ. It should take the value in TripendTAZ and put that in DestTAZ. For OrigTAZ it should put value of TripendTAZ from the previous row. For the first trip of every

User input when running R code in batch mode
Hi I've been stumbling over a simple issue that undoubtedly has an easy solution. I need to have some way for a user to enter some values into a data frame which R will then work on. I know that data entry should ideally be done otherwise and I should use R only for the computation, but R's data manipulation abilities makes it efficient for me to write the entire code in it. When I ran
