ncdf4 installation problem: undefined symbol [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Hello,
I'm trying to install ncdf4 on RHEL 5.8, R version 2.15.1.
Previously installed is netcdf 3.6.2 from Red Hat, so I've compiled and installed netcdf 4.2.1.1 (with hdf5 and zlib as per install instructions, and also set --enable-netcdf4 option) into /usr/local.
When attempting to install ncdf4 it is failing with:

Extracting subset from netCDF file using lat/lon and converting into .csv in R
I have a series of nertCDF files containing global data for a particular

Extracting subset from netCDF file using lat/lon and converting into .csv in R
Two questions:
1. Is the order of the dimensions shown what is shown if you look at str(ncin) - I mean shown at the end where it describes the variable and its dimensions?
2. Is you problem how to subset the netcdf file, how to write to the .csv file, or both?

Creating the right table from lapply list
Hello,
I have no previous experience with R, but had to learn on the fly in the past couple of weeks. Basically, what I am trying to do is read a certain variable from a series of files and save it as csv-table. The variable has an hourly value for each month in a year for the past 20 years and has to be read for different geographical locations. So there will be 12 files per year (1 for each

Creating the right table from lapply list
Perhaps this toy example will help:
## example data
output <- list(1:5, 1:7, 1:4)
lens <- lapply(output, length)
maxlen <- max(unlist(lens))
outputmod <- lapply(output, function(x, maxl) c(x, rep(NA, maxl-length(x))), maxl=maxlen)
outputmat <- do.call(cbind, outputmod)
write.csv(outputmat, na='')
The idea is to pad the shorter vectors with NA (missing) before converting

"non-numeric argument to binary operator" error while reading ncdf file
Hi everyone,
I am a newbie in R and in this discussion list. I am trying to use R package
"ncdf" to read values of temperature from a NCDF file. I did it before to
another file using the function "get.var.ncdf", but now there is an error
that I can not solve, and I would really appreciate if you could help me.
I am using R version 2.11.1 (2010-05-31) in a machine with Linux

ncdf - writing variable to a file
Hello,
I have a problem writing a variable to an existing file.
Below is a part of my script and how it fails.
I can't find "create.var.ncdf" in help
Thanks for any help.

ncdf4: Why are NAs converted to _FillValue when saving?
Dear all
I'm a newbie regarding netcdf data. Today I realized that I maybe do not understand some basics of the netcdf. I want to create a *.nc file containing three variables for Switzerland. All data outside of the country are NAs. The third variable is calculated from the first two variables. Basically there is no problem to do that. I copy the file with the data of the first variable,

Problem with adding a raster and a brick
Hi,
I seem to be having a problem adding the following two raster objects
together - one is a rasterLayer, the other is a rasterBrick. The extent,
resolution, and origin are the same, so according to my understand it
should work. The objects look like so:

class : RasterLayer
dimensions : 60, 200, 12000 (nrow, ncol, ncell)
resolution : 0.5, 0.5 (x, y)
extent : -70,

translating IDL to R
I would appreciate
* guidance regarding translation of IDL routines to R, generally
* assistance translating two IDL routines to R, specifically
Why I ask:
I'm slowly learning how to do atmospheric modeling. One language that

where to ask questions regarding package=ncdf?
Should one ask questions relating to the R package 'ncdf' here? or
look for a more netCDF-oriented (but probably less R-oriented) list?
Why I ask:
I'm relatively new to R, which I've only used in the past for graphics.
I'm trying to learn R as an alternative to manipulating netCDF files
with NCO (which works well but lacks all the other R goodnesses). Hence
I've got a

netCDF to TIFF
Greetings R users!
I am working with the ENSEMBLE climate data (10 min resolution daily
temperatures images for all of Europe 1950-2006). The data comes
packaged in a single netCDF file. I would like to read the data in and
export a subset (2002-2006) as geotiffs (one image per day). So far, I
can successfully read in the data and view the images within an R
display window. However, I have yet to

Creating a loop to read 3D dataset
Dear all,
I have in my possession a netcdf from which I want to extract some data files. I have used the "ncdf" package to read the netcdf file and used the "get.var.ncdf" function to identify the variable i wish to use. The data is in the form of a time-series of geographical data points that relate to climatology variables. As such I have a large data frame,
