Package surveillance (v0.9-8) on CRAN
Dear R Community,
I would like to announce the package "surveillance", which provides
methods for the surveillance of count data time series originating
from the routine collection of public health data.
The package addresses epidemiologists and statisticians working with
routine surveillance, but it also offers an infrastructure for
developers of new detection algorithms.

Grandstream surveillance devices
I just got a spam from telephonydepot (which I invited to spam me, so I
guess I have to call it legit marketing :) ), and they have some new
device that is meant to be a surveillance camera with audio, but the
interface is POE and SIP! A cool idea. Anyone playing with this toy yet?
I am trying to wrap my head around how asterisk might fit with the model
of this camera being

Morans I for Spatial Surveillance
Hello,
I am interested in using Morans I for different time intervals to detect disease clusters.
Ultimately I would like to use CUSUM - or similar monitoring statistic to monitor the results of Morans I - similar to the work by
Rogerson (2005) Spatial Surveillance and Cummulative Sum Methods in Spatial and Syndromic Surveillance for Public Health.
Thus far - thanks to the list I have

surveillance DVR
Does anyone know of a DVR that runs Linux that does NOT USE Active-X,
and/or allows logging in directly?
All I keep running into are crap that ->requires<- IE, and don't allow
directly logging in.

OT: Video Surveillance SW on CentOS
I suggested to our Homeowners Association that we begin a Private
Forum (phpBB) and web site. That suggestion has been well received and
we will proceed with that.
Now, I have become involved in a much more complex and important
project, which is Video Surveillance, for the entrance to our
subdivision.
I Googled and found two (2) things for Linux that seem to be OK:

qcc package & syndromic surveillance (multivar CUSUM?)
Dear R Community:
I am working on a public health early warning system, and
I see that the qcc package allows for CUSUM and other statistical quality tests
but I am not sure if my project is a good match for qcc functions as written.
Any advice you may have is very much appreciated.

inconsistency in treatment of USE.NAMES argument
Changing the vapply() behavior makes sense in principle. I analyzed
the CRAN code base using the R parser and found 143 instances of
calling vapply with USE.NAMES=FALSE. These would need to be inspected
to understand the consequences of the change.
For reference:
/AzureML/R/datasets.R:226
/BBmisc/R/toRangeStr.R:33
/DBI/R/DBDriver.R:205

inconsistency in treatment of USE.NAMES argument
Hi,
Both vapply() and sapply() support the 'USE.NAMES' argument. According
to the man page:
USE.NAMES: logical; if ?TRUE? and if ?X? is character, use ?X? as
?names? for the result unless it had names already.
But if 'X' has names already and 'USE.NAMES' is FALSE, it's not clear
what will happen to the names. Are they going to propagate to the
result

Problem with VFS audit and recycle
Is there anyone running Samba 3.0.X on Solaris 8 that has VFS working? I
am dying to know if this is a problem with my setup or if there is
something else going on. If you do have it working, please let me know
which module. Thanks.

[SUMMARY] Re: New installation (samba passwords)
I had just sent this whine out when I discovered the ENCRYPTION.txt file
in the docs directory. Thanks to Bill Knox (no relation that I know of)
for confirming what I had begun to suspect when I finally RTFM.
My samba installation is now working like a champ.
I'm now wondering about an enhancement to smbpasswd that will allow
UNIX-like password expiration and forced changes. And of course,

OT hardware question
With the continuing annoyance from motion, my manager's asked me to go
looking again for a video surveillance appliance: basically, a
motion-detecting DVR and cameras. The big thing, of course, is a) price
(this is a US federal gov't agency, and being civilian, money is *tight*,
don't give me the libertarian/GOP line about how freely we spend,
thankyouverymuch), b) it has to be on the

Aggregate Help
Please let me know if this is or is not the right place to ask these
types of questions.
Warning: I am new to R by two days.
I have a simple dataset.
I have loaded the dataset successfully using the following code:
Filepath=(C:\temp\\pilot\dataset1.txt")
Pilot=read.table(filepath, header=TRUE)
Dataset1.txt is delimited and looks like this:

OT: hardware: blackmagic video capture cards
Hi, folks,
I'm still trying to find a video capture card that won't crash Dell
servers, and ran across a Blackmagic BDLKDUO2 DeckLink Duo 2. It claims
to support Linux. I'm also seeing, in the few non-Blabkmagic or sales
pages I can find, that they like "binary blobs". I also haven't been
able to find anything about o/s or library requirements.
Has anyone run

run R script automatically by double-clicking WinXP desktop icon
I've written a simple script that does some surveillance analysis on daily counts of walk-in clinic visits, for our county health department. (Actually, Michael Hohle's surveillance package does all the work; I just customized it a little to work with the way our data are recorded.) The output consists of a graph and a little table.
My colleague will run it once in a while, on

Is Dual CPU machine solution for using Asterisk with other general apps (like home automation, web server, ...) in home environment ?
Hi,
I'm currently thinking of putting more functionalities to Linux server box.
Major is Asterisk, but would also like to add video surveillance, home
automation and limited (for only domestic up to 4 users) web, file and
mailserver apps.
I know there are problems running Asterisk with other such apps on same
machine - but wonder if I can take advantage of dual processor machine in

Grandstream GXW-4108 8 port FXO
Has anyone used either the 8 port or 4 port FXO device from
Grandstream? (GXW-4108 or 4104).
They seem to be the lowest cost multi port FXO devices that I can
find, so I'm getting ready to buy the 8 port version. I just want to
see if there are any opinions on the device before I commit to the
purchase.
If people have not used the Grandstream, are there any issues with
