Indicator Species analysis; trouble with multipatt
Hi Ansely, As Jim points out we really need some sample data to go with the code. Have a look at ?dput which is the best way to supply sample data here or have a look at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5963269/how-to-make-a-great-r-reproducible-example and/or http://adv-r.had.co.nz/Reproducibility.html for some general suggestions on asking questions here---including discussions of using

Vegemite Function is Cowardly refusing

This is the error I get: Error in vegemite(apst, apst.clusters) : Cowardly refusing to use longer than 1 char symbols: Use scale I thought the problem was that I was using the log transformed data, but I tried it on the raw (which is single digit numbers), and still

Power Failures or Spikes
Hi all, My server is connected to a UPS but whenever there is a power failure or spike it seems that once all the clients come back up they cannot connect. I have to restart the server each time. This is no hardship but I was just wondering if anybody had the same problem and if so and they fixed it, how? Thanks Tom Ansley

Question about Rpart function
Hello, When considering linear function where dependent variable is a function of lags of dependent variables ( co-variates are kind of auto regressive).Question is .....Can i take entire data set for rpart . Then split data into training and testing and validate the model for testing data.In testing data previously predicted value will be the lag of dependent variable for next prediction.

sieve reject to wrong address?
Hi all, I have succeed in setting up postfix (to send/receive emails), dovecot to access the folders via IMAP, all using TLS and sieve under dovecot to manage filters. I have also set up a sieve rule to reject those mails whose size exceeds 2 MB... and I'm really proud of everything, because it is my first time!! However, when rejecting the mail, instead of sending a mail saying

Permissions Problem (?)
Hello, I'm an inexperienced Linux / Samba user attempting to get some simple networking going with various versions of Windows. Running Samba 3.0.14a-2 on a 'freebie magazine' fedora install. I appear to have a what I think is a permissions problem, but could(?) be username or password related. I can see my shares on all of my Windows clients (2k,xp and 98). I can read from them,

About "duleg" Indicator Species Analysis
I have a question about the function "duleg" in the package "labdsv". How the p-value is calculated ? Dufrene and Legendre (1997) have shown two calculation way ; one is the difference between the observed value and the mean of those obtained from random permutations and another is the rank of the observed value in the randomly generated distribution ordered in decreasing

null model for a single species?
Dear List members, I would like to test whether an observed occupancy of lakes in a landscape has occurred randomly (by chance) or not. How can I do that? The problem is that it concerns only a single species and I would like to use binary data only. At first I thought of generating null models and test the observed occupancy against the randomly generated one. However, this needs more than one

dbFD computing distinct species wrong?
Hi everyone, I am working with the dbFD function of the FD package, and there's something funny happening with the value of sing.sp in the output. Basically, I have a species-function matrix and a community matrix. One site in particular has 6 species, 4 of which have identical functional coding. I thus expect nbsp = 6 and sing.sp = 2 for this site. However, nbsp = sing.sp = 6. This

mapping bathymetries and species abundances
Dear all, I am new to R and even newer to mapping with R. I have installed PBSMapping, maptools and maps, and I am struggling to produce a map of fish abundance in the Grand Banks. I have tried several approaches to plot the bathymetry in my study area: 1) download the data from http://topex.ucsd.edu/cgi-bin/get_data.cgi (42N46N313W307W) To start with, the map I get is blank between

species projected in a ordiplot
Dear all, I'm performing a detrended correspondence analysis on vascular plant community data (296 species), and I have a question on the species scores projected in the ordination diagram. When I run a ordiplot all species are projected in the output graph, but I'd like to restrict the number of species plotted in the final graph. Some species are so rare in the data, that no relevant

Problem with Species x Site matrix please help
I am at my wit's end. I am not sure what is wrong with this data matrix. It is sparse because it is a matrix of species, but I have looked at the row totals and column totals and they are positive. metaMDS(x.d) Error in if (autotransform && xam > 50) { : missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed What is wrong? And in the future how in God's name do I easily diagnose whatever
