Rails Documentation is RoR''s achilles heel
Hi All
Just a few minutes back I came across a post about autotest/zentest and that
post reignited the feeling I get when I look at RDoc, RoR documentation.
The main thing that is lacking in RoR and to some extent Ruby''s RDoc is
showing method names in HTML is not documentation. The arguments to method,
exception/errors raised by method, return value and a usage example
completes the

ror app with advanced rspec?
Hi!
Can anybody link to some ror based project what is using rspec, so
nuby as me can learn from it. So it should have updated and practising
advanced rspec.
After reading last threat about "testing behaviour or testing code?",
I just realised that I would definitely learn something from app like
that. Some casual googling didn''t help me this time.
Thanks!

Can we cache user home pages?
Hi Railers,
I am trying to create a simple application like a guest book which has users
and uses sessions to keep track of
which users are logged on. The user''s page is constructed after doing some
SQL queries and the user clicks on another link and hits the back button I
dont want to regenerate the whole page (which is what happens now) .So I
want to use some kind of caching mechanism.

[SUMMARY] Rails Core Weekly June 5 - June 11
Dear list,
This weeks RCW has a slightly different format than before. After all,
since what we want is less bloat, this RCW is less verbose. Please do
let me know what you think off-list.

Fun with ez_where
I''ve been trying to use the ez_where plugin to create a dynamic finder.
The structure looks somehing like this..
=== controller ===
def list
attribute_filter = params[:filter]
@filter = Caboose::EZ::Condition.new :table do
attribute <=> attribute_filter if attribute_filter
end
#
... do the find with the @filter
#
end
=== view ===

Embedded player
Hey folks,
I was hoping I could pick your guys' brains. I have been searching for a
flash player that I can embed onto my site, that would be capable of
playing an icecast stream. I have checked out a few, and they are all
limited to playing a static mp3 file. Has anyone worked with such a
thing and could give some recommendations?
Thanks,

ez_where query question
I''m having fun composing queries with ez_where, but am stuck on how to
formulate the following using the ez syntax:
(begin_date >= ? OR end_date >= ?) AND (description LIKE ? OR name LIKE ?)
There are two clauses, each containing OR operators (the ez ''any'' syntax)
but both clauses must evaulate to true for a match.
Can anyone suggest the proper way to construct

ez-where headscratch
Hi there,
I''m puzzled by this apparently simple query I can''t manage to reassemble
using ez_where plugin.
cond = Caboose::EZ::Condition.new :my_table do
start_on < Time.now
any {end_on > Time.now; end_on.nil?}
end
I keep getting the following result :
>> cond.to_sql
=> ["my_table.start_on < ? AND (my_table.end_on > ?)", Tue May 23

raking my brain to fix this
I am ''raking'' my brain to fix this problem - I have searched, googled,
looked through rake documentation, wiki.rubyonrails and I can''t fix...
This works
$ rake plugindoc
(in /home/craig/ruby-db/th-db)
rdoc -o doc/plugins/ez_where --title ''Ez Where Plugin Documentation'' --
line-numbers --inline-source -T html

Shared Nested Resources
The skinny is that I''m attempting to add "Discussions" as resources
under different resources ("Groups", "Projects", for example) and I''ve
simply hit a roadblock (or two).
Discussions are an association between the "discussable" (Group,
Project, etc.) and a "Topic" so:
class Discussion < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :topic

STI Question
Hi everyone,
I have 3 types of people (for now):
Staff
Faculty
Students
To break them up into classes, but keep them in the same People table,
I''ve broken them up like so (code and ''ends'' snipped):
class Person < ActiveRecord::Base
class Employee < Person
class Staff < Employee
class Faculty < Employee
class Student < Employee
So, when I insert

Using ez_where
Hi All,
I am trying to pass values to ez_where to construct my conditions. I
need
to know how the params need to be formated for ez_where.
My search class looks like this:
def search
@display_ad = DisplayAd.new(params[:display_ad])
cond = Caboose::EZ::Condition.new do
pub_date == ''@display_ad.pub_date''
io_number =~

ez_where: Stuck Again
I just keep thinking this is going to slice through queries like a hot knife
through butter, but... there''s something I''m not getting. Here''s the gist:

params[:search], params[:search])

Problem with ACL plugin system
Don''t know if anyone else has experienced this but I''m having a problem
with the access_denied method in Ezra''s ACL access control plugin. It''s
working fine (in conjunction with acts_as_authenticated) until it comes
across a user it denies access to, in which case it throws the following
error:

acts_as_paranoid overrides ActiveRecord::Base??
Guys,
I am trying to figure out what exactly does this line do at the end of
"acts_as_paranoid" plugin?
ActiveRecord::Base.send :include, Caboose::Acts::Paranoid::ActiveRecord
My problem: I have some classes that I use acts_as_paranoid, and others
with tagging support. Classes declared as taggable, throw error, which
appears to be in the acts_as_paranoid version of the
