virt-install in CentOS 5
Hi All, [I originally posted this message in the main CentOS users' list, but later found this list. So, I'm reposting it here since this is where it belongs.] I'm trying to install a Fedora 8 domU on a CentOS 5 dom0, but the following command fails: [root at xenmaster ~]# virt-install -p -n krs -r 512 -m 00:16:3E:66:94:5F -b xenbr0 --vnc --vncport=5910 -l

ttyS0 doesn''t exist
Hello, I''m frustrated, and confused. Someone send me a light bulb. I have a UPS attached to the only serial port on a Dell PowerEdge 1600SC. When I boot the system with the xen kernel, ttyS0 NEVER gets created. I though that perhaps the default xen kernel config was the problem, so I configured a new one, based on the kernel config from the RHEL 4 (U3) kernel (which is running in

Postfix and LDAP
Hi Everyone, I thought I'd try asking here before joining the postfix mail list since I'm running postfix on a CentOS 7 box. I want to look up accounts via LDAP (an IPA server also on CentOS 7). I created an "ldap_aliases" file and successfully tested it with the postmap command: I can get the email address for an arbitrary user. But, when I add the very same file to main.cf, I

Postfix won't relay after update to CentOS 4.4
Hi Everyone, My CentOS 4.4 mail server is having problems sending mail after updating it to 4.4 Before the update, I did not have any problems. My ISP requires that email clients must authenticate to their mail servers before mail can be sent out. I setup smtp auth to get postfix to relay mail through the ISP's mail servers. Here's my config: main.cf -------- relayhost =

libata-core kernel errors
This is a repost of sorts, and for that I am sorry; I do not think my original posting subject was very clear, and I have more data about the problem. I'm experiencing lots of kernel errors when reading or writing to a disk that is part of an mdadm softraid-5 array. Since originally detecting this problem, I have isolated it to one disk, but I'm not sure what the cause of the error is. I

Dovecot and IPA
Hi Ranbir I've worked with freeIPA a little, but without your doveconf or some other context information, it is difficult to identify the issue. Migrated from maildir to sdbox: questions
Hi Ranbir, i think youre just using the wrong quota backend. https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Quota You should switch from "quota = maildir...." to another one, like dict. Converting your Public mailbox you could try this ( no guarantee .. just guessing. make backup ! ): doveadm -o mail_location="maildir:/var/spool/mail/thesandhufamily.ca/public" sync sdbox:/target/folder

kvm in Centos 5.3
Hi All, Is KVM support in CentOS 5.3 complete? That is, can a CentOS 5.3 system host KVM VMs or does CentOS 5.3 only support being virtualized via KVM? I ask because I installed KVM on a CentOS 5.3 host, but I can't find a kvm module anywhere in /lib/modules/* (let alone the running kernel). Postfix+MySQL - how to create DB
Hi All, I'm toying around with Postfix and MySQL on a CentOS 4 server (no longer using stock postfix and mysql rpms, obviously). I've read several "How-TOs", and it all looks fairly easy to do. The one thing that puzzles me is the table structure for the postfix mysql database: where is everyone getting it? Also, I've noticed that some people create more tables than

Dovecot SASL and GSSAPI (IPA)
Hi Everyone, I'm currently using dovecot SASL in postfix and passwd-file in dovecot for authenticating my users. I want to switch to using IPA instead. I have both the postfix (mailman01) and dovecot (mailman02) servers joined to the IPA domain. I have GSSAPI working in dovecot for IMAP. But, the SASL GSSAPI authentication in postfix fails with this error: warning: unknown[10.200.5.100]:

smbd using alot of cpu
I have an smbd process that is using alot of cpu on HP-UX 11.11 using Samba 2.2.3a. It looks like the application on the client side is trying to open and close a ton of files, many of which do not exist. When I do a trace on the smbd process, I see repeated calls to lstat64 to what looks like all of the device files on my unix server. Here is a little bit of the trace. It goes through all of the

php-pear-SOAP
Hi All, Anyone know of a CentOS 5 package for php-pear-SOAP? I'm installing Centreon, and that's the only pear package I have not been able to find packaged as a RPM for CentOS 5. I did find this, though: http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/extras/6/i386/repoview/php-pear-SOAP.html I should be able to just install the Fedora 6 package, but I'd rather use one built

Oracle java RPM
Hi Everyone, Years ago the recommended way to install Sun's java was to install from the tar.gz file because the RPM they supplied did some bad things (clobbered other files or something...can't remember the details). Is this still the case with Oracle's java RPM, or is it now safe to install? Ranbir -- Kanwar R.S. Sandhu

[OT] External RAID storage / NAS
Hello List, I need storage for my home network - lots of storage. It's going to hold pictures, home movies, music, other bits of data, etc. I'm looking to start at about 500 GB, but I'd need to eventually grow that to 1 TB, or more. I also want something that is quiet, has hot swappable drives (not necessary, but a plus), is fairly easy to manage, and can be directly attached to

Dovecot and IPA
Hello, I'm trying to get Dovecot to use GSSAPI for authentication. I have an IPA server on CentOS 7 with a bunch of my servers attached to the IPA domain, including the server running Dovecot. I've followed official documentation from Red Hat and read numerous wiki articles on how to configure Dovecot to get it to use GSSAPI correctly. I don't think I've done anything

RAID: by host or within KVM?
Hi Virtualizers, I just setup a CentOS 6 box (at home) to run as a KVM host. It's replacing an absolutely ancient CentOS 5 server that's running Xen. I have one OS drive, and two drives in RAID 1 with LVM on top which is being used as the KVM storage pool. I created a KVM that will run OpenMediaVault (OMV). OMV requires an OS drive (which is really a LVM), and a separate drive(s) to
