Wireless mouse problem
Hello all,
Just for kicks I plugged in a Microsoft wireless optical desktop 1000
keyboard/mouse combo into my Centos 4.5 machine. It recognized it on
boot and configured it and it mostly works good. The issue is with the
mouse, when I hold it over a folder on my desktop for a second or so it
grabs the folder and opens a small menu as if I was using my middle
button on my Logitech. All this

Battery applet missing Compaq R3000
Hello list,
I recently loaded CentOS 4.2 x86_64 on a Compaq R3000 laptop and then
fully updated to 4.3. The battery applet on other installs always just
showed up and worked, not so here. It is not in the applet choices at
all, it is available here on my desktop. I suspect it is something
simple I'm missing but I need a point in the right direction. I did try:
yum remove and yum install

Update broke Evolution
Hello all,
Tonights updates seriously broke Evolution as it no longer starts on two 4.4 up-to-date boxes. When I run "evolution" from the cli I get this:
$ evolution
(evolution:4865): evolution-smime-WARNING **: Failed all methods for initializing NSS
The updates included firefox, seamonkey, seamonkey-nspr, and seamonkey-nss.
A reboot causes no change, Any ideas?

MS Outlook 2007 won't open
I have installed Word, Excel, and Outlook from Office 2007 Enterprise. Word and Excel work okay. But Outlook can't open its main window when I start it (I get an error dialog from Outlook saying that). The configuration wizard run okay.
I have tried this on two separate Fedora installations (F12 and F13) using the latest wine version from the repos (1.2).
I have googled around and seen posts

help with manipulating data frames (survey analysis)
Dear all,
Can anyone recommend a good book or an online tutorial for using data frames
in R?
I want to do statistical analysis on some survey data and I can specify what
I would like to do very easily in algorithmic terms. However, being a n00b
to R I am struggling with getting R to execute what I want.
I think all I need is some source that directs me in the right direction by
walking me

Win98 not doing name resolution.
I recently reinstalled Linux on my fileserver (RedHat 7.2), which was
running Samba (v 2.2.1a). Now, trying to reconfigure Samba back to its
original state (silly me didn't keep a copy of the conf file) I've run into
a problem. My win98 machines can't find the Samba server by name, but they
can by number. By this I mean:
On a Linux desktop,

Prioritizing forwarded traffic over locally generated traffic
Hi,
I''m a complete newbie at this traffic shaping / QoS stuff so please excuse
me if this is a silly question. I''ve searched and searched on Google and I
just end up confusing myself even more, so I thought I''d post my question to
this list and see whether someone can help me!
Basically, I am running a Linux box as a NAT router on my home network
(machine name marvin).

Windows progress
Hi there,
What''s the current status of the Windows port? I may be in a position
to lend a hand over the next couple of weeks - where should I start
looking? And what''s the best way to get SVN HEAD? This happens:
$ svn checkout svn://www.davebalmain.com/ferret/trunk ferret
svn: Can''t connect to host ''www.davebalmain.com'': Connection refused

short read while checking ext3 journal
My UPS failed and my server took an 'unscheduled outage' a few weeks ago.
The only casualty appears to be a volume I used for backup. I usually
maintain data on multiple hard disks, but in this case I errantly had some
data (of marginal value) on this file system.
At this point, the data is not worth enough for me to send the drive out
for data recovery, but it's worth enough to

Very small scores for search results
Hi Everyone,
I''m using Ferret 0.10.11 with acts_as_ferret from SVN (same results with
0.10.10 and 0.10.9 though).
I''m running into an odd problem where the scores of my top-ranking
search results are ridiculously small - even when the query is one that
should match at least one document with a decent score.
To give an example, I have just the names of 5 businesses indexed

deliver segv on sieve redirect
Hello,
I've been trying out the bleeding edge, 1.2.alpha4. I'm having a problem with deliver and
dovecot-1.2-sieve-0.1.1.
I get a segv on this sieve script:
require ["fileinto", "reject", "vacation", "envelope", "regex"];
if header :contains "subject" ["urgent"] {
redirect "someone at somewhere.net";
