Active directory sites & subnets
Hello, Reading about, specifically in the wiki <https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Active_Directory_Sites> link, says the following about subnets. "Create a subnet entry for all subnets in your network and assign them to a site:" The subnet on which our DCs are configured is a public IP block, but the client machines are in a subnet with a private address block. Do I need to

Thanks for the answer ligpanda101!! For DC's that are not present on a subnet, assign the subnet to the closet > site to a DC Visibly via RSAT, how would that look? sites and subnets
We had a samba 4.1.9 AD DC running since July. We have 3 campuses and brought up a secondary AD at another campus. This setup seemed to be running as expected. We could see our primary AD DC authenticating requests fine. We could see the secondary AD authenticating requests as well at our second campus. Then we started experiencing bandwidth issues between our campuses. Our metro-etherlink

Add DC to a site using command line
Hi all, Is there a command line to add DC to some site? The idea is to have a domain with several sites. If the whole AD database get corrupt I would restore some backup to recreate the first DC (the one with FSMO) then I'll join all others DC to that domain to force them to rebuild their database according to the one restored. Doing that I'll get all DC with the right DB but also in

Samba4 and 0.0.0.0:137 and 0.0.0.0:138 opened, why ? How do close it ?
Thanks for this answer. As I understood, for example if parameter bind interfaces only = yes is and interfaces = lan0 (192.168.0.254) is and if broadcast packet goes from 95.95.95.14 such packet will be dropped (in other words) ? Am I right ? And other thing. Why is 192.168.0.255 (network broadcast) opened for ? May be exact such address (network broadcast) is inbtended for receiving broadcasts

Map share based on site?
In Samba/NT i was used to share mapping done in netlogon script, so users move around between sites, get home and profile from remote location but still have share mapped from local servers. In Samba/AD, using GPO, share mapping is in ''user policy'', and so user roam between sites and get different policies? I'm googling around but i'm a bit confused... i can still use

unique index violation on objectSid on samba ad
ok =( Guess I should repeat all the work from scratch. So just to check if I got it right: 1) Create a new container. Provision a ad dc on it. Can I join some machine to apply some gpo's and to create users at this point? I'll delete it afterwards 2) Power down the container from 1) and use it as a template for every other dc I need just by changing ip/dns 3) Create another template for

GPO, multiple DCs, sites and sysvol
Hi list, I recently realized that using multiple DC has a major drawback when using Samba In my understanding, in a classical AD environment, sysvol share is supposed to be a DFS share. This means that proximity rules are applied when accessing to it. When using samba it seems that we face a classical round-robin DNS, which can lead to the situation where a machine on site A tries to fetch

Samba4 and 0.0.0.0:137 and 0.0.0.0:138 opened, why ? How do close it ?
Hmmm, I founded some at https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2012-July/085752.html As I saw these patches was already implemented. But is it possible to receive broadcast not to 0.0.0.0 but to x.y.z.255 ? This is network broadcast either. And opened 0.0.0.0 even with checking of source net is quite insecure from net security point of view. I think so. May be is it necessary to add
