Updating Samba from a bit old 4.0.10
Hi dears, It has been a long time that we did not update our samba (4.0.10). Is it possible to directly update it to the latest stable version as stated in https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba or we should take another path?! Please note that we have just one samba 4 AD DC working with internal DNS and without any additional DC or replication. Yours, E. Alaei

Updating Samba from a bit old 4.0.10
Thanks dear Marc Actually I was afraid of previous release notes, should I read all the notes for 4.1.X,4.2.x and 4.3.x and <4.0.10? It would be a lot of reading?! backup script problem with samba 4.0.10
Hi dear list members It's about 10 months that we have setup our samba 4.0.10 and using it as the only domain controller and LDAP server (please note that our server's hardware crashed 10 months ago and we did restore a bit old backups and rejoin all computers to the domain). To backup the samba database, I stop samba service at 2:00 AM every night and backup using samba_backup script

Added user can't login to the domain!
Hi dear list members It's about 10 months that we have setup our samba 4.0.10 and using it as the only domain controller and LDAP server. We had not any issues unless recently that: sometimes when we add users using microsoft RSAT tools on a client windows 7, the user is shown on the "Active Directory Users and Computers" snap-in but when that user wants to log in to his computer,

samba4 backup script
Hi list I recently encountered errors while trying to backup the samba4 AD. Apparently tar had some problems with sockets in the samba4 directory. I modified the samba4 backup script, perhaps this or a similar change is good to include upstream? Samba4 Backup and Recovery Tutorial
Hello, Looking to implement the backup script from the Wiki. I hit a snag at this part. *Because this script is very basic at the moment, there are some things to know, if you plan to use it unchanged: * ** * *The script doesn't backup extended ACLs. This results in that you'll lose the permissions e. g. on the SysVol share. If you have a tar version that supports the

Samba backup script retention question
Hello, I'm using the 'samba_backup' script with the self compiled version. I noticed the retention period not being applied to etc and sysvol tar.bz2 files. Looking at the script it appears to only list the following at the end 'find $WHERE -name "samba4_*bz2" -mtime +$DAYS -exec rm {} \;' Can I also include the etc and sysvol tars in the command? Any

Thoughts on samba backup script for DCs
Hello, possibly the author of the samba backup script will read this. I customized the script myself due to some things: 1. At the end the script looks for samba4_* files to rotate the backups. But only backups of the private folder get this prefix with the original script. sysvol and etc backups will remain. 2. The wiki of backup and restore advises to restore on the same version of samba the

samba backup and build
I am replacing my samba 4.1.9 with version 4.1.14. While tarring my /usr/local/samba in preparation for this I got a number of message about not being able to backup a socket. So I switched and used pax to create the tar archive. I got the same message in addition to the message about not backing up the socket I get messages like this: pax: ustar header field is too small for ./var/locks/sysvol/

File timestamp and robocopy
Hi all, I'm trying to sincronize a share from a W2K to a samba 3.0.13-1 server. The problem i'm having has to do with the timestamps of the file that causes every file to get recopied by robocopy every time. Example: Doing a stat on the Samba side: File: `client.dat' Size: 7804 Blocks: 16 IO Block: 4096 regular file Device: 6807h/26631d Inode: 8815015
