DFS queries via rpcclient to Windows 2012 Server fails
Hello, We previously had Win2008 R2 DCs which we have begun to replace with Win2012 servers (forest is still at 2008 level however). I was able to query DFS via rpcclient but now I find that I am unable to. I know that SMB3 was introduced in Win2012 but I believe that it should auto-negotiate earlier versions. I did however test from v4.1.9 as well, unfortunately that still fails. From Samba3

Migration from Win2K server AD to Linux Samba4 AD
Hello !! _PRODUCTION ENV_ - I currently using 2 Win2K AD servers, 1 Win2012 File Server and about 100 pc on the same domain (domain A) _TEST__ENV_ - I just created 2 Linux Debian8 Samba4 AD servers with a different domain (domain B) and I'm using 1 pc (joined to the domain B) to test the new environment. My problem is to access from the new Samba environment (pc/users joined on domain

HyperV (win2012) storage on Samba4
Hi, I'm trying to expose a linux share via Samba4 to serve as a VM backing store (storage) for HyperV VMs running on Win2012 R2 Standard server. The system details are: Intel(R) Xeon CPU. 64 bit operating system. I'm not sure if SMB3 is fully supported by Samba 4(codebase corresponds to "master" git branch). The VM deployment fails while trying to create *.vhdx file; the error

smbmount: mount() syscall gone bad ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have seen a weird problem in one of my clients. The reported that when issuing a smbmount command (both client and server are CentOS 4.4), it would take up to 30 second for the mount to complete. To make a long history short, by using strace and the source, I noticed smbmnt is first calling mount() using ascii options for *data. Then that would

Replacing Win2000 DC with Samba4 - Success!
Hi! Just wanted to share a little success story: We where asked to replace a Win2000 DC deployed by another company which is'nt existing any more. As our focus is software development on linux we wanted to deploy a Samba-server instead of Windows. So after some trial and error and a lot of reading and asking (many thanks to all that tried to help!) in mailing-lists and forums we

Samba4 AD Groups Problem
Hi! I created a Samba4 Demo Server to test AD functionality. Basically it's a Debian Wheezy machine with a manually compiled Samba4 (smbstatus -V: Version 4.1.0pre1-GIT-051a1a9) according to https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO but adjusted the paths to a more debian way. I can Manage the Server with the Windows Domain Utilities, add users, add groups, add Machines and so

Can't authenticate to AD using Samba with SSSD
Would someone please tell me where I can find some good troubleshooting documents to resolve AD authentication issues when using Samba? Is this mailing list the best place? I was able to setup a working WINBIND-Samba setup on CentOS 7.6, but I am required to use SSSD on a different CentOS 7.6 server. Using a test VM, I can get services running, but I can't authenticate from a Mac or

file permissions with inherit permission + ACL's
Hi, I have a share (testshare) where different unix groups (testgroup1, testgroup2) should have access to. But I want that new files are only created with 660 permissions. Here are the ACL's of testshare: # file: testshare # owner: ralfgro # group: ve user::rwx group::rwx group:testgroup1:rwx group:testgroup2:rwx mask::rwx other::--- default:user::rwx default:group::---

Can't get 'dos filemode' to work as expected
Hello, After an upgrade to samba 3.5.8 (from 3.2.5) the option 'dos filemode' does not seem to work anymore. If I (as a user) do not own the file I can't change permissions. I am user 'felix' and member of supplementary group 'Development'. To test things I use the following share definition: [Temp] path = /srv/samba/file-shares/tmp browseable =

Samba + Winbind ADS on Win2012 AD with Native 2003 domain forest level
Hello, I am trying to connect samba to our NEW DCs running win2012 AD. Now I can join samba using net join and winbind lists users and groups but USER AUTH fails at by using smbclient and wbinfo -a. Error that I get is ACCESS DENIED. Now I'm guessing that something must be blocked on Windows servers that does not allow Winbind to authenticate. I tryed Samba 3.0.33 , 3.6.6 (3x package) ,

smbclient -k works; mount -t cifs does not
I am confused (nothing new there ...). I have 2 Ubuntu 9.10 Samba servers. I am trying to mount a share from the other (i.e., "workhorse" is trying to mount a share on "dual-booter"). If I specify a smbmount command with a -k option, I can mount the share: turgon at workhorse:~$ klist Ticket cache: FILE:/tmp/krb5cc_1000 Default principal: turgon at DACRIB.LOCAL Valid starting

Samba Permissions
Hi, I have a case where I only want to restrict access to SMB shares via filesystem permissions (and POSIX ACLs). Therefore, I do not want Samba to verify security in any way at the SMB level. If the filesystem/ACL permissions allow access to the shared directory, so should Samba. If the filesystem does not allow access to the filesystem, Samba should deny as well. I thought I had this

Samba 4 vs Samba 3
So, I have "working" builds of Samba 3.6.10, and 4.0.2 using the traditional build system on AIX, both built with XLC. For historical reasons, we're needing to use 'encrypt passwords = no', so that Samba uses the OS password. The odd thing, is, the 3.6.10 Samba works just fine, but the 4.0.2 doesn't allow connections. Here's the Samba config I'm using on both:

Samba and admin users performance
Hello, I have a performance problem when I don't connect using root and/or a user in the "admin users". Configuration: Samba 3.5.11 running on SLES11SP1. The share exported is on a GPFS filesystem and the GPFS vfs object is loaded(not loading it doesn't change the described behaviour) clients: Windows 7 and Windows 2008R2 all at latest update level.
