Domain Member Server (wheezy) - Unable to edit permissions of share without usermapping - shall I add to Wiki?
Hi Davor, If the mapping of administrator to root is not ideal, I do like the idea of having a specific FileShareAdmin group. But, why chown and not simply chgrp? Thanks! Local Administrators (group) and delegation in AD
Hi all! We have got many delegations in our AD. To add a certain administrator group to the local Administrators group you can use GPO for Windowsservers. As Samba does not understand GPO I have initially used the "username map" feature to add a domain account to become root. After the appropriate group is added via Computer Management MMC by the delegated administrator, the line

Samba 4.17 Cannot join Win7 clients to domain
Hi Davor, I finally found it! After going through https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Windows_Client_to_a_Domain , I checked the time settings on said clients and they differed from the AD DC too much. This also explains why some clients could join after a while...they synchronised with a NTP server after a day or so and then I was able to join. After that, joining the rest of clients was

Run smbd in AD user context
Hi all! Is it possible to run smbd in an AD user's context? If not, is it possible to have smbd to tell a third-party function to not stray outside from logged on user's (AD user) context (home directory)? I'm programming a VFS module[1] which will be the bridge between Windows and iRODS[2]. iRODS depends on a configuration file, .irods/irods_environment.json, which resides in the

Resolving computeraccount$
Hi list! Many questions are asked and answered about resolving user accounts. But does winbind resolve computer accounts? To elaborate some: it is perfectly all right to add computer accounts to access groups and use them in ACLs on a share or folder. For instance you would like a startup script to run on a client computer before a user logs on. Or perhaps you would like a server (account)
