user on W2K SP2 SERVER cannot auth on samba PDC (but W2K WS yes)
Client = W2K OS Server SP2 but not server for anything except a shared software. (I didn't run dcpromo) I've just built a brand new domain with samba as PDC. I did not have any problem with W98, NT WS, NT Server, 2K WS and XP WS. All of these joined the domain successfully and users are happy. But, a user in the company runs a W2K SP2 os SERVER as workstation. There was no

Replication problems bdc to pdc
Ow and.. Your hosts files are incorrect. Layout should be : ip hostname.fqdn hostname So this should be : > 10.44.1.10  ry11citdc.ry11cit.lan ry11citdc > 10.44.1.9   ry11citsdc.ry11cit.lan ry11citsdc Reboot both servers after the change. Replication and DNS issue
Greetings, I recently setup a new server to join an existing domain as a DC. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 server and downloaded and installed Samba 4.1.8. The installation went well and once completed I joined the domain with the following command - samba-tool domain join mydomain DC -Uadministrator --realm=mydomain (actual name changed). I got the Joined domain as a DC message. I followed the steps

ADC 4.7.0 KCC replication failing with PDC 4.6.8
I do have GPO directories under sysvol which I have copied using rsync to the new DC and when I run samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset command is failing on the new DC. I am not sure what do I call the main DC thats why I use PDC. I have removed the unnecessary lines from smb.conf Please let me know what do I have to do now. I want to migrate the old DC running on Ubuntu 12.04 to the new DC on Ubuntu

Internal DNS replication and how to fix
Hi All, First, off I'm a bit of a n00b w/Samba4 so I'll apologize ahead of time if any of this seems obvious/trivial. I'm working with Samba RC1 tar build and trying to get DNS replication working. Right how I get the following under --snip-- ==== KCC CONNECTION OBJECTS ==== Connection -- Connection name: fa253d86-3549-4208-ab29-a0d702ccdb02 Enabled : TRUE Server DNS name

DNS replication and BDCs
Hi, For normal readers you kn ow already my setup, but for those new here, I have a Samba4 PDC and two BDCs one a samba4 and the other a W2k8 R2 machine. Yesterday we had problems with our upstream service provider and my PDC (Backend BIND 9 DLZ) went down for some hours, as you might guess my whole AD was down due to the fact that the main DNS was down. I would like youi to point me or tell

samba 3 keeps trying to authenticate with the nt4 pdc using port 445
Hello, I'm running redhat enterprise as 3.2 with the included samba 3.0.2-6.3E. I'm trying to make this a domain member server in a nt4 domain. I've successfully joined the domain only after using the net join -p 139 option to force samba to use port 139, otherwise it kept trying to communicate over port 445. (I was watching the syn packets with tethereal). Typing wbinfo -g comes

Domain Functional Level & Schema Replication
Apols guys about the Thread question. I saw a discussion between Roland and Steve and was just trying to get more info. So apols about hijacking an old thread as it was a bad attempt to nudge a conversion. Firstly could anybody explain why the last line out of samba-tool domain level show. Is this just a bad message or what is triggering "Lowest function level of a DC: (Windows) 2008

Samba4 Replication Errors
Greetings, I recently promoted a new DC in our existing domain. The existing domain consists of two domain controllers running Samba Version 4.2.0pre1-GIT-b505111 on Ubuntu 12.04 Server. The newly promoted DC is also running Ubuntu 12.04 server, but Samba Version 4.1.8. The promotion was successful and after a few tweaks to DNS, replication is working. It is however failing on some items and

DNS Replication
Hi, We have a Samba AD domain with an Ubuntu 16 box as the AD DC . We then promoted a Windows 2008R2 box as a DC. The DNS zone/data in the Samba AD gets replicated to the Windows DC. However, when we try to add a host entry in Windows DNS, we get the message The host record abcd.LIN.GROUP cannot be created. Refused. When we try to create the same in the Samba AD box, it works. The DNS backend

One strange thing is that logon script does'nt work anymore, it worked at one point and now doesnt (I quite play around here and I dont know in which point of changing smb.conf it stopped to work). [netlogon] share is like that: [netlogon] comment = Network

our dns replication: working or not?
Hi, I'm using the microsoft RSAT DNS Manager to look at our samba4 internal AD dns, and see that there are differences between the dns records on our two DC's. (sernet samba 4.1.7 & 4.1.9) (for example: our DC2 still shows an old NS record for samba.domain.com with a DC that no longer exists. The NS info on DC3 is correct) I assumed that DNS records would be replicated, since
