4.1.7 Server Side Copies & Disk Permissions
As soon as I add the declaration for server side copies I hit problems with disk permissions.
Same as in 4.1.6 and always the same so I will not bother to add a log.
If you follow http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_home_share
But have vfs objects = btrfs declared all is different.
You can add users and groups but the default Everyone, CREATOR GROUP and a Unknown you just can't

New HowTo about setting up a home share
Hello,
as Andreas encouraged me to announce my new Wiki publications always on
both lists, here it is my latest one:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_home_share
In the last time, we had some questions on the list, about how to setup
a home share without manually granting permissions to every user folder.
This HowTo should explain everything that is needed (and maybe a bit more).

User folder automatic creation - should use skel, but no
Hi,
I am testing Samba 4.1.4 Sernet packages on Ubuntu 12.04 to replace our
old Samba 3.x server. I edited pam common-session file and added
'<https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_home_share>session
required pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel/ umask=0027' just before
pam_unix.so and pam_sss.so. If I shell-login on the server it create its
homedir as expected using

samba-tool user to edit users..?
Hi,
In our samba3 days, we provided a homedirectory like
\\filehost\username.
Now, with samba4 / ADUC using "\\filehost\username" gives the error:
"the home folder could not be created because: the network name cannot
be found". We have a little root preexec scripts creates the directory
and sets permissions, so ADUC only needs to accept the

upgrading to 4.4+
im currently on
Version 4.3.6
when i tried to upgrade to 4.4.0 i did the usual upgrade procedure but when
it came to samba-tool dbcheck it said it needed to fix some of my ZARAFA
extended schema attributes. Can I skip this step since it broke my install
and i had to restore the backup ?
Also if i want to bring my install current can i got to from 4.3.6 to 4.4.5
and then to 4.5.x or can i got

New production system - a couple of issues hope you can help
Set up a samba 4 DC everything there seems fine.
Set up a member server according to this article: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_AD_Member_Server
The setup went fine - also set up a home share according to this: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_home_share
I'm using sernet-samba-ad for the domain controller and sernet-samba-winbind for the member server both

Cannot access shared home directories from linux machine
Hi,
I configured a share for home-directories on my Debian Samba PDC (4.1.9)
and connected the share on another linux machine (terminal server) via
/etc/fstab:
//192.168.10.51/home /home/DOMAIN/ cifs
credentials=/root/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8 0 0
The .smbcredentials file contains the Domain Administrators
username/password. The share is mounted successfully,

samba 4.5.0 strange windows 10 issue | incorrect password
Well, all I gained from that is you haven't got a PDC, it is an AD DC.
What OS are you using ?
What is in smb.conf ?
What is in /etc/krb5.conf ?
what is in /etc/resolv.conf ?
what is in /etc/hosts ?
what is in /etc/hostname ?
what is the ipaddress of the AD DC ?

Rowland yes it's ADDC the hostname is just PDC. Sorry for the confusion
The server is

getting permissions denied on home folders
I have a fresh Debian based Samba server and Member server setup.
I have configured profiles and they appear to be saving properly to the
member server.
When I attempt to adjust file permissions (as instructed by the
Sambawiki page "Samba & Windows Profiles") I am getting "Access Denied"
complaints. These I believe (I could be wrong) relate to the file
permissions

samba4 admx centrally stored
If i wanted to add admx file (chrome) to samba4 instead of installing it on
every W10 machine managing the AD, where would i put the file.
from quick search
https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2016-January/197298.html
it says to place it in PolicyDefinitions in sysvol, but i do not have that
folder there. Does it need to be created ?
Thanks

First, I keep forgetting that I need to change the email address to
reply to the mailing list. Sorry about that, everyone. (Hard to follow a
thread that is fragmented like this one now is.) I am focusing to
intently on my problem.
Rowland, changed to 0755 for the three directories you suggested and
still getting "Access is denied" from my W7 client. I even restarted the
server and
