Automatic Windows Patch Deployment (OS Agnostic)
A month ago I mentioned on this list work on a automated package
deployment tool for Windows systems, which is server agnostic. At the
time, I didn't have the time to put it up in a place for public
consumption. I do now.
The utility is named wpkg (punny isn't it?) It's nothing more than a
simple .js (jscript) file which needs to be run on Windows, from a
directory containing three

samba and ssl certificates?
Morning,
I am working on enabling the ssl portion of several of my services (https,
imaps, ftps, etc). I am using a free certification authorithy (CA) for
my certificates. I need to get this CA's root certificate installed in
my several windows workstations. All these workstations are part of my
samba PDC domain.
Is there a way I can use samba, or maybe the logon.bat file, to install
this

Software deployment
Hello all,
Here's a good conversation starter.
How do people deploy new software (office,adobe,java,etc...)
on their client machines with AD?

Wiki should have Readme First
Many first time users of Samba-4 seem to struggle with the same issues.
I suggest the Wiki should have a Readme First similar like this:
http://www.klaus-hartnegg.de/gpo/14-03-12-samba4.html
It basicly says that Samba 4 can behave either like Samba 3, or as
AD-DC, in which case it should do nothing else. Then it lists the main
differences, limitations, and requirements.
I would love to see a

deployment of software
I have Samba and about 40 WinXP Clientes running.
Now I?m trying to find a way to deploy software (for example
updates of E-Mail Client, Windows Patches) to my Clients.
I was playing around with AutoIt and some "switch-user-tools" for
windows, which really works but also is kind of complicated and time
consuming.
In my environment, every user got his own Logonscript on the Linuxserver

OT - Software deployment
Hi all,
I have been fishing through the archives and have not found a lot of posts
about this that were not 'golden oldies.' Do you guys use anything other
than brute force to deploy software and updates to your client PCs? I would
be interested to know what you are using, whether you use it for initial OS
install, software deployment/upgrades, or other things, and roughly how much

machine accounts question
Hi,
On our sernet-samba 4.2.4 AD-style we see that for some (newer) machine
accounts, they do not have a gidNumber and uidNumber.
Users logging on to those machines experience no problems, but in those
systems eventlog we see during boot::
This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain
controller in domain OURDOMAIN due to the following:
There are currently no logon

Effect of setting "store dos attributes = no" in Samba 4.1.11
Thanks for your help and replies. Yes, I meant "store dos attributes".
It's pretty clear now that I need to keep the parameter 'store dos
attributes=no' since
1) the server is an AD member server and
2) the map* parameters don't do the right thing under ZFS / NFSV4 ACLs.
I've read that the steps Klaus Hartnegg listed resolves the issue on ZFS on
Linux; however, I

SCCM and other MS tools compatibility with Samba 4.x.x (Functional level 2008R2)
Hello Folks,
We're using Samba as AD servers along with Windows AD Servers (2008R2 FL).
We also use SCCM (Current Branch) that is dependent on AD for lab
deployments (Windows 10).
Currently, SCCM (current branch) supports 2008R2 FL, but for how long???
Samba does not support 2012R2, 2016, 2019 FL.
We'd like to remove the Windows Servers from our AD infrastructure, but
would also like

wpkg for Samba
Hello List,
This is very much so Samba related but I'm sure there are several
people here this would relate to. wpkg is a nice add on to Samba that
allows you to mass install Windows software to Windows clients machines
as they log onto a Samba server.
Today's offerings.
I have made a simple binary rpm that installs all of the needed files
for both server and client. Thought this may

How to automatically store the macAddress in AD
Hi list,
Does someone know a way to automatically store the hwaddress in the AD?
I'm using Veyon in my school to manage the students PCs and if the hwadress
is populated in the AD, the Room configuration can be set with AD otherwise
i have to manage rooms manually.
I'm using samba4 with bind and isc-dhcp-server are on the same server.
Can we use scripts or some ways?
thanks in advance

Missing features, RLY?!? & readme1st again
Missing features from memory from following this mailinglist:
- Win7 join to AD still requires two registry changes.
- SYSVOL is not replicated, use a cronjob with rsync.
- Domain-Trust works only in one direction (which one?).
- winbind does not work on DCs, use a separate file server.
- Joining an AD requires one of its DCs in the same subnet?
- Cluster filesystems destroy TDB files, use CTDB.
