CUPS Windows point'n'click driver installation
Hello all, Attempting to setup print server. OS: Ubuntu 14.04 Samba: 2:4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2.14.04.3 Setup basic server following: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_as_a_print_server Works as expected (i.e. must manually specify driver when installing via Windows, but the share works). Samba 4 BDC to Windows 2008 PDC
Hello folks, The documentation for running Samba as a BDC clearly states that it is not operational with a Windows PDC [1], but this documentation covers Samba-3 and it was suggested in IRC by scooby2 that this functionality is now suported in Samba 4. Can anyone else confirm this? Should I use the documentation for Smaba BDC or is there more current documentation for this functionality?

Issue with printer sharing
Hi list, I just set up a print server using Samba 4 as a domain member. I successfully uploaded drivers to the server (through printmanagement.msc). A test machine has been able to print through the server but I'm unable to access preference page of the printer in printmanagement.msc (preference page is fine on client). RSAT keep saying that the driver isn't installed, installs it and

CUPS and Samba4
Hi, I'm going to migrate my old CUPS server to a new setup. It shall provide the printing backend for Samba4 and should integrate as seamless as possible. Both Windows and Linux users should not require additional passwords, but should be authenticated by their Kerberos tickets. Is there anything particular to consider? E.g. has the CUPS server to be joined to the AD and should it run a

clarification regarding RFC2307 winbind backend, please
Can someone please clarify the scope of the remarks in this wiki page: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/RFC2307_backend specifically, can you confirm that the following applies only to a Member Server, (not the DC)? https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/RFC2307_backend#Configuring_RFC2307_backend_for_Winbind > Configuring RFC2307 backend for Winbind > > Add the following to the [global]

Samba 4.2 AD, DC and winbindd
Hi, I am using samba 4.2.1 and want to clarify that do i need to start the winbindd service in AD and DC? Read form the doc https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/RFC2307_backend, it said that: Users having a ?server services? line in their DC smb.conf, need to replace the ?winbind? entry by ?winbindd?: [global] server services = ....., winbind, winbindd Users not having a

windows acl not saving, no error, nothing in log file
Regarding the insertion of "user_xattr,acl,barrier=1" in to /etc/fstab file. The Sambawiki page 'https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/OS_Requirements' has instructions there for ext4 to include this. I seen it commented here, in the mailing list, many time that this is now default for ext4. Maybe the wiki page should be changed? (Just a suggestion, you guys always give great

Samba 4.17 Cannot join Win7 clients to domain
Hi Davor, I finally found it! After going through https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Windows_Client_to_a_Domain , I checked the time settings on said clients and they differed from the AD DC too much. This also explains why some clients could join after a while...they synchronised with a NTP server after a day or so and then I was able to join. After that, joining the rest of clients was

Samba4 as AD member & local rights problem...
Hi all, have a samba4 server as AD member (security =ADS). I have no account with "Domain Admin" rights, only a normal account with delegated privilege to managing GPO and for domain join. I can not manage the printserver resp. upload the win drivers. The smb.conf option 'printer admin' is gone with v4. I asked already in irc on #samba and got the advice to "make any

printer spool directory
HI! I've noticed that every time I install Samba 4, I need to create a /usr/local/samba/var/spool directory and give it 777 permissions. If I don't do that, I can't share the printers with my windoze machines. Is this by design? Should this be put into the how-to? Thanks -jimc

CUPS backend question - Samba 4
Hello, I have a DC that sits on a different subnet from the CUPS server that I would like to use. I would rather not install CUPS on the DC. Is it possible to change the server name away from localhost for the CUPS backend and have it connect to that other server to get the printers (load printers = yes) and print to that server? Must I have a CUPS installation on the DC? Thank you, Trever
