Mobile phone client - first access
Ladies and gentlemen, good morning! With my first post to the list,
may I begin by saying how impressed I have been by Dovecot's
performance on our Debian server. We've configured it to run with
Exim and Fetchmail, using Dovecot to manage professional and domestic
emails for a small home office, serving a number of Windows and Linux
clients both on the internal network and, when

Dovecot 1.2.12 + Postfix + virtual domains: delivering to system users
As mentioned in my previous posting, I've set up a mailserver for a domain of
Winboxen, authenticated through Active Directory. After some struggles, I
finally got that working. But I also need to receive emails for a few system
users on the mailserver (like postmaster, and a couple of accounts set up
for maintaining the system).
I thought, based on the way I read the documentation,

Confused about Maildir
I'm trying to configure Dovecot 2.0.7. In the Dovecot Wiki for Maildirs
it says that Maildirs are almost always located in ~/Maildir. I'm a
Linux end user, not a programmer, so I may be wrong in this; but isn't
the notation "~/" used for system users only to reference their home
page; /home/<user>? If that's the case, then does that mean that
Maildirs can

mbox/maildir mixed setup with system/virtual mixed users
Hello Everyone,
I'm using dovecot 1.0.7 (not sure how relevant it is though)
configured to handle both sytem users and virtual users.
The system users are handled by default (PAM), while the virtual
users are handled pretty much like this:
passdb passwd-file {
args = /var/spool/vmail/%d/auth/%n
}
...And mailbox and folder location settings:
userdb static {
args =

setting up both system password users AND virtual users
I'm afraid that I am a rookie at dovecot, and cannot seem to figure the configuration
for a dual system & virtual setup. For now I am using POP3 ---only---
I've got the "system" working, but cannot figure out how to add the virtual system.
The docs aren't quite clear enough for me to understand.
The wiki example for dynamic passwd-file locations
shows: mail_location =

Quota - usage counting.
Hello,
I use dovecot 1.2 version with postfix virtual users and mysql. All
information about quota for every user is in mysql table.
How dovecot compare if quota in database is over quota in
/var/vmail/exampleuser directory ?
It uses something like du command ?

Sieve vacation reply problem (Dovecot+Sieve/Sendmail/Horde)
Hello Dovecot community,
I have an annoying problem with successfully activating Sieve vacation replies - on which I have been working hard the last days without success :(
I'm using Dovecot 2.2 + Sendmail + Sieve connected with Horde web-mailer IMP H3 which is generally working fine.
BUT: Whenever I activate vacation script in Horde (via Ingo) and send a test-mail to this account, the mail

quota not working on delivery
Hi, I am using the Debian dovecot packages and the deliver LDA from
postfix, all version 1.0.beta8. My problem is with quota support,
I am using Maildirs. The relevant configuration stuff is included at
the bottom of this email.
Quota support seems to work with IMAP. However, even when IMAP
complains about an account being over quota, the deliver LDA still
happily writes new mail to the (correct)

CMUSieve with virtual users
Hi,
I'm using dovecot 1.1.7 on Gentoo with Postfix and PostfixAdmin to
manage my virtual users.
I'm trying to use sieve (which has been compiled with Dovecot) but it
doesn't work.
I added cmusieve in the lda protocol :
mail_plugins = cmusieve
mail_plugin_dir = /usr/lib/dovecot/lda
My maildir scheme is : /home/vmail/%d/%n/.maildir
The sieve file is in

Nee assistance with migrating/copying a virtual user's maildir to another virtual user
Hello,
I am trying to move/copy a virtual user's maildir to another virtual user
but am running into problems with dsync and doveadm. I'm trying to move the
maildir of a user who is no longer with the company to a manager's maildir.
For doveadm I am using the command:
doveadm move -u scavenaugh at lamontanita.coop
jhenning at lamontanita.coop/INBOX/scavenaugh INBOX ALL

years and have some prior experience with dovecot + postfix and had no
problems. now that i'm trying to convert an existing courier-imap
configuration to dovecot and all the various parts work together (e.g.

issue sorted.

migrating/converting from system users -> virtual users
Hello all,
We currently have a traditional mail server where all users have system
accounts (ie entries in the NIS passwd map) and mbox-format mail folders in
their (system) home directories.
I'm trying to setup a dovecot server in which we want all users to have
"virtual" accounts (in dovecot) and no entry in the passwd file at all (ie no
access to the mail server).

dovecot and postfix virtual mailbox domains, system users
Hello,
I'm trying to get dovecot and postfix virtual domains working on an fc6
system. My software versions are postfix 2.4.5 installed from rpm and
dovecot 1.0.3 also installed from rpm.
I'm only running secure protocols, pop3s at the moment, imaps later on.
I've set up postfix for virtual mailbox domains as per it's howto on the
subject and confirmed that email sent gets

how to store flags \Seen into read-only mailbox?
Hi,
I'm trying to use dovecot for storing mailing lists and read-only access for users.
The OS is Solaris, authentication for all readers of these lists are from Ldap through PAM, and one local user "listuser" will receive all mail and store them into it's folders (Maildirs). These maildirs are readable (read-only) for all others and they are shared by setting

"Real" users AND Virtual users
Dear all,
How can I use dovecot for both "real" users and virtual users?
I could configure dovecot for real users, by using these lines
in /etc/dovecot.conf:
default_mail_env = maildir:%h/Maildir
auth default {
passdb pam {
}
userdb passwd {
}
}
To accept virtual users, I used these lines:
default_mail_env = maildir:/usr/local/virtual/%u/
auth default {
passdb sql {

Dovecot newbie (migrating from qmail)
Ive been using qmail+vpopmail+courier-imap for many years but its time to
retire that server so I thought this might be an opportunity to see how I
could use Postfix and Dovecot to provide the same services. Im running
Dovecot 2.1.9 and Postfix 2.9.4.
I have spent a few days reading through some of the docs on the wiki
(there's doesn't seem to be any large overview of Dovecot concepts or

Virtual users - what is better Maildir or mbox?
Hi,
I'm trying to configure a server to use SAMBA and Winbind to
authenticate to Active Directory.... I managed to get this portion up
and running even the Dovecot portion.
For reference something similar to this guide:
http://www.whitneytechnologies.com/?p=119
However PAM is slightly different:
# cat /etc/pam.d/dovecot
auth sufficient pam_krb5.so no_user_check validate

[whishlist] new option for 'doveadm purge'
Hi,
I do store mail in mdbox format of 150m in size (dovecot 2.3.9).
Once in a while I do experience mdbox files of smaller size, even after applying 'doveadm purge' and previous expunges by the users. like:
-rw------- 1 vmail dovecot 104854595 Feb 9 2019 /var/mail/.maildirs/userX/storage/m.22
-rw------- 1 vmail dovecot 29088478 Mar 8 2019

Add virtual users to the Dovecot configuration
Dear Dovecot Mail List,
I have used Dovecot for quite a while to service remote users on my SOHO
network. A local not-for-profit asked about getting their own dedicated
domain name for mail.
I followed: http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_postfix_virtual_hosting to
set up a virtual, but the article leaves out system accounts and I have
not been able to access both system and virtual users at the
