Apparent Maildir permission issue
Jan 16 13:09:44 mail dovecot: imap(mark): Error: opendir(/home/HPRS/mark/Maildir) failed: Permission denied (euid=3000026(HPRS\mark) egid=100(users) missing +r perm: /home/HPRS/mark/Maildir, conflicting dir uid=10001(HPRS\mark))
Just wanted to point out that you have at different UID for the folder
than your EUID (gotten from userdb/passdb).

mail location change generates various errors
I have a sendmail/dovecot imap/pop3 system that has been running with
the following mail_location:
mail_location =
mbox:/var/empty:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u:INDEX=/var/indexes/%u
In order to reduce errors and simplify operation I removed imap and am
now only responding to pop3. I'd like to also simplify the
mail_location to get rid of index errors since I don't need indexes:

Apparent Maildir permission issue
I've just upgraded from Slackware 14.1 to 14.2. I've not done anything with dovecot -- it's the
same version that was running before the upgrade. However, now I'm getting a permission error:

Unable to get virtual users set up with database auth
I can't seem to get imap virtual users to work with database
authentication on new Scientific Linux 6.5 server with Sendmail 8.14.4 &
Dovecot 2.0.9
Apparently I have to also create system users because
sendmail/procmail/dovecot want to check directory ownership.
So I created a database, made entry for the user, created the user
chayes on the system.
But %u always contains just chayes

Apparent Maildir permission issue
I've gotten errors like this when it was actually a selinux denial. If you're running
selinux, check those logs too.

Permission denied / missing +r perm
I have postfix configured to deliver mail to dovecot over lmtp into a mailbox that then is accessed over imap. The imap server is running as the user "mail". Whenever I run "postfix flush" I get in mail.log:

Error: file_dotlock_create failed: Permission denied
Hi,
I have a Fedora 14 x86_64 computer. I run dovecot 2.0.12 on it, only to
keep a local imap copy of all my email, in maildir format. A couple days
ago the hard disk broke, so I bought a new one, and reinstalled Fedora 14
x86_64 with all the updates.
Then I copied all the maildirs from a backup to the new drive.
But I can't access email now. No matter how I change sticky bits or
ownership

Bizarre permissions problem
Help!
I have been using dovecot for some years with great success. A little while ago, I changed my mail server from Fedora to CentOS linux. I reinstalled dovecot, and *almost* everything seems to be working, but one thing. There's *one* user I can't get it to work on without a workaround. The user is "newuser" and the uid is 1111 (actual name and number changed to protect

I'm guessing this point is being more restrictive. Can you try changing this into 0755?
Also suddenly you are no longer using vmail but random user IDs. This only works with vmail.

LMTP & home, chroot, mail userdb fields.
Hello, Dovecot.
I'm using postfix + dovecot with pure virtual users. postfix uses
standard virtual transport, and dovecot fetches such fields from
userdb:
chroot: "/usr/home/hosted/v-mail/%d/%n"
home: "/"
mail: "maildir:."
Everything works Ok -- dovecot founds users' mail.
Now, after upgrade to dovecot2, I want to use it LMTP server as

Fatal: setgid, imap connections dropped.
Hi,
I'm getting errors with my IMAP setup.
Basically, everything seems to work.
Mail is delivered nicely from Postfix to Dovecot via LMTP. Dovecot does
the authentication to LDAP (also for Postfix). Users are able to send mail
via authenticated submission (Postfix) and login into IMAP and POP.
However, IMAP connections are dropped frequently with an "ERROR:

Managesieve problem
Trying to get either avelsieve or server side filters to work with managesieve. Managesieve is running but whenever avelsieve or the server settings backend try to talk to it the same thing happens. So I guess it's really a problem with something about managesieve at this point. I hit the Message Filters option, it takes a long time for it to come back, though it finally just times out and
